mastodon 4.7.3Thinking about calm software, reading, and attention.
I like bogs, Casio watches, and They Live memes.
Physically in Wisconsin, but mentally here to learn in public.
Today I'm launching Sourcefeed - a pop-up RSS service: https://blog.terrygodier.com/2026/04/28/today-im-launching-sourcefeed-a.html
New app coming this week (no, it's not Dark Hours). App is called Dial.
Any guesses what it is? How about wrong answers only :D
A favor: please send me all of your favorite internet radio stations. Especially those run by one person. Send me any ambient streams of the real world you know of: coffee shops, street corners, gardens, whatever. Thank you!
now onto the positive things:
as a personal statement of work, i write this stuff because I love the same technology you do. i believe in the power and the promise of tech and our ability to make it a place for /people/.
it would be easy to end all of my essays with doom and gloom, but i always reach for a healthy dose of absolution. my goal going in is to talk about something we all feel and then to make us feel hopeful that things can be better.
📢 New Essay:
“Communication technologies have been reshaping the human body in a slow migration down the arm.
They’ve run out of body. Now they’re reshaping the message.”
Somehow just catching this, but Stuart Breckenridge recently launched Gobbler, a no-nonsense rss aggregator. Looks extremely solid to me, and look at that: it works with Current (through the google reader compatible api).
Nicely done, Stuart! @stuarticus@indieweb.social
Paste a url onto the shelf and voila, a full web archive for private, local, longterm viewing. 🪄
still having too much fun.
This is really, really, really getting interesting. Remember, this is literally just a GUI on top of Finder and the normal macOS filesystem.
Relationships. Metadata. Visual, spatial, wonderful.
another thought:
pointing out that something reads like AI has become a way to feel like you've made an argument without making one. fine, it reads like ai. what did you think of the idea?
whether a sentence was written by a human or a machine has no bearing on whether the sentence is true. that's bulverism/genetic fallacy.
more useful: "this reads like AI, but I think the argument about X is wrong because…" The but is the part that does the work.
i know i said i wasn't shilling for big finger, but i do have 2 things to shill for little finger:
1. https://happynetbox.com by @benbrown@masto.hackers.town - go git your own finger
2. plan poke (https://borovia.co) an ios/ipados/visionOS(!) app for finger w/ some pretty neat shtuff by @fds@mastodon.social
Ok, this has been unbelievably fun to see what everyone is writing about (publicly) and the crazy, zany ideas you have for the api!
🙏🙏🙏
Busy as hell at work today, but I had a chance to work this up over lunch... the Finder++ prototype exploration continues. Isn't this fun?
Add any external folder, too. File spelunking is a true joy when it's visual.
oh, and no, i wasn't shilling for big Finger in this one. I just happen to like finger.
i'm just a dude in sweatpants who needs to go to work now, man. but if the finger folks want to reach out and get a sponsored deal going, I'll wear that jersey.

It’s true, I do want to do that 🫡

One of my favorite people making some of my favorite things. Immeasurably, immensely recommended.

yes, come one, come all, come finger
So this ad is just downright trickery right?
The CTA directly beneath the show I looked up says watch now. It’s styled like a button, even animated, and yet it’s no button. How can this possibly convert meaningful enough to be worth it?
