Today we went for a picnic lunch, that did include luncheon sausage, at Awhitu Regional Park, to have a small pat of the worlds largest macrocarpa tree.
There was a couple from Manchester with way too many kids, there, on holiday, that @gabba@mastodon.nz talked their ears off for a bit, who wondered how old it was, only to find it was not native to AO NZ, so not particularly old. Bit still it is bloody yuge and deserves some respect.
We love you, very large macrocarpa, you introduced immigrant bastard, much like us, although not so yuge.
I was just sitting in another risk assessment meeting for a thing happening next week, where in part we think of everything that could go wrong and check we have mitigations and plan b. Knowing full well that us just thinking of the bad things will induce the IT Gods to make those bad things happen. And even worse, stating out loud that I'm not particularly worried about one of those risks will even further enrage the IT Gods for that exact one thing.
So I just sit there with my mouth shut, lest I goad them into action
I'm coding a new expense claim system for work and it's bothering me that we have mileage rates. Kilometerage rates doesn't roll off the tongue the same way. I'm going to code kilometerage anyway, but it's making me grumpy on a Friday morning
Friday is my favourite day. The commute is easy, I drove to work at 6am at 100km/h most of the way like petrol wasn't a concern. I did some hours of work, no lunch break and then finished at 3:30pm, drove home to my beautiful house and my beautiful wife (I typed both of those beautiful's on my own) and have mixed a couple of margaritas. And of course it's #jukeboxFridayNight so tonight that means 15th century liturgical chant. Thank you Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina for some superlative jams after a couple of margaritas. Later I will move to some 80s synth pop and have a boogie. Friday nights are so good
It's just occurred to me I haven't had luncheon sausage in a really long time, so made a polite request of the purchasing department. Looking forward to that in various forms over the weekend. Got to have something to look forward to.
I have several (20+ years) of data that shows this is the last week of warm in Auckland and that this is the week that I start to wear another layer over my tshirt when I walk out to the car to go to work in the morning at 6:14am. This is also the last week before I turn the heat on in the car and in the house at some point between here and the end of April. And then it's 6 months of grind until the living is easy again.
On the other hand, I also do snuggle up close to @gabba@mastodon.nz all night and nothing else matters. She so warm

Gosh I can remember driving that van back to Wellington after I handed over the money from a loan I took from Westpac Trust in Johnsonville like it was yesterday. I picked up a Swedish hitchhiker on the southside of Foxton and drive him into Wellington to his backpackers because I just wanted to drive my first car so bad. The rear van doors squeaked so bad it was positively painful the whole way. I wonder where he is now. I hope he is happy.
I bought a new Keychron K5 keyboard to replace the Keychron K5 keyboard I bought 4 years ago when I treated myself to a new server/PC at home. The old one will go to work with me tomorrow to replace the cheapest HP keyboard money can buy that I've worn out there.
I've always spurned the keyboard cognoscenti, but let me tell you, this keyboard is buttery smooth. So slick. So lovely. Typing on it feels like touching @gabba@mastodon.nz's loveliest softest skin bits (I could not think of the right words there as I am not Percy Bysshe Shelley, but I'm sure he'd have used "skin bits" in this context).
I yearn for the typos because I get to type more letters. I am a keyboard snob from now on.
The last time we cooled the house this year was April 5th. Then a couple of weeks of no action. And then the first day we moved the heatpump from cool to warn was April 21.
I can't remember if I still have code running here for the hashtag #daytum but I guess I'll find out with this post
Here are the number plates of the first 3 cars I owned.
DG7195 was a 1969 Mk1 Ford Escort van, bought in Marton in the Rangitikei district for $1700 in 1985. It was 1100cc, then 1300cc and later 1600cc
JJ8 was a Ford Escort rally car, long retired, bought from someone in Belmont, Lower Hutt with a loan from my girlfriend at the time, now my wife of almost 34 years.
EE3930 was a pristine 1972 Ford Escort bought in 1990 with a very bad diff that ultimately become a merger of it and the 2 before it (registered as OW706) that had a very happy life on gravel roads around Te Ika-a-Māui in 93/94 until its throttle stuck open and it went off a very high bank and ended up in a paddock, and took 4 hours to recover it back to the road.
I miss them all as if they were my first born 3 babies
