@oldladyplays Announcing your space to be explicitly queer friendly is also a good way to pre-emptively filter the assholes -- they'll be unable to keep from outing themselves by complaining about "Virtue signaling" and "identity politics" because in their perception any explicit indication that people who aren't like them are welcome is interpreted as an attack on themselves.

"This is a great tool to analyze and summarize information so you don't have to, but it's still your responsibility to check the analysis and summary to make sure it's correct." It's like the saying -- a stopped clock may give the correct time twice a day, but the only way to check whether it's correct is to consult a functioning clock, which makes it worse than useless.

@nCrazed@fd00.space @nixCraft@mastodon.social I'm reminded of the Trust Thermocline ( https://readwise.io/reader/shared/01ggz99w9kvpp6yq52abes00eq/ ); MS has been getting steadily worse for a long time now, and every time it failed to cause a mass exodus they figured "okay, we can probably go a bit further" like they're playing The Price Is Right. It's hard to predict where /exactly/ the Thermocline is, but they're inching closer to it with every iteration.

The real saying is "The blood /of the covenant/ runs thicker than water /of the womb/." -- the acknowledgement that you can't choose who you're born to, but you can choose who you befriend and ally with, and who'll stand with you when the chips are down is more important than who you're biologically related to.
