Just happened. We were almost home and a ton of cop cars were sitting at the hill that takes you down to the house. We passed by slowly and they looked at our car, looked at the plates, talked into their shoulder/lav mics and turned around to walk to their vehicles. There's a turn to another street right before our house. We pulled off on that. Drove for a short bit and turned around. When we came back, we stopped to turn. There were at least six marked and two unmarked SUVs that passed in front of us on a mission. We waited to turn and watched them get to our house and they collectively hit their brakes to slow their vehicles right in front, just before you see the driveway. We turned the opposite direction and made some circles. Someone was at home so we immediately called. The person at home had noticed the cop vehicles out front but didn't notice how long they slowed the vehicles. We circled a bit and now we're at home. They were probably making a bust down the road. Y'all, just FYI, there has been some other weird shit going on lately I'm not going to get into and I don't want to come off as more paranoid than this already comes across as. But also, idk, check on me if I don't post tomorrow, I guess? Idk. Still, just keep destroying fascism and keep building beautiful worlds amongst us all.

As a #trans #antifascist in the US, I've lately been spending less time wondering what happens if I get arrested, and much more time wondering what it means if I don't. Here's the piece: https://www.revoluciana.net/if-i-dont-get-arrested/

Excerpt: "Every person who has ever won a sports competition had a "biological" advantage over someone else. Despite the fact that 9% of all people throughout human history over 7ft tall have played in the NBA, and there are only about 2800 people over 7ft tall alive today (far more rare than trans people), yet we don't ban people over 7ft tall from playing basketball. We don't ban them in the NBA or in schools, anywhere else, or at any age. Not in women's or men's sports. Instead, their height is celebrated and rewarded."

If I run for Senate, let the words I've written above in this thread be the starting point. To summarize: I'm high. I'm angry. And I'm sick of this bullshit, and I'm sick of people taking seriously a governing body that is hellbent on oppression and genocide, as well as the massive destruction of life on this planet. It's time to fuck.

Regardless of if humanity makes it through all this, I think one of the saddest parts about destroying the atmosphere, poisoning the waters and running them dry, melting the glaciers, using up all the sand, committing xenocide on countless species, fencing the wild, destroying the rainforest, just, all of it...

One of the saddest parts is just that this is all we will have built. And none of us even wanted any of it in the first place, we just knew that we were supposed to go to work and pay our bills.

It's an interesting thought experiment, and mostly I'm just frustrated that all we will have is a handful of bloodwarm candidates who are more concerned with their political career aspirations than they are the fascist takeover, the climate crisis, and the genocides in which we're complicit, to name just a few things. A bunch of people who think that we need to work together in unity with people across the aisle while families are being torn apart, people are being torn apart, and we round people up and put them in concentration camps. But these candidates want to be civil, and I'm so sick of this bullshit. I think maybe I should stick with my zines. AOC was a bartender, though, right?

Excerpt: "Look, if sports really were about overcoming adversity, about community, and about supporting each other, about working together and becoming better people, then what argument is there against trans girls playing sports with other girls? Because if that's what sports were about, then this would be one of the best arguments for including and encouraging trans girls on girls teams. Trans girls need community with other girls, they're desperate for it, I would know. They need support, especially with overcoming adversity. In what way is a team learning to become better people by excluding such a marginalized girl from their team and throwing her to the wolves? Even if you're skeptical of my argument, go back and read the decision handed down by SCOTUS. Then read what Justice Sotomayor wrote. They all said the same things I'm saying here."

Yesterday I was having a really hard day, probably just hormonal and dehydrated, but still.

Today, I have had so many friends message me about various things, pebbling, asking about getting together, and I just remembered that life is so much better than it used to be when I pretended to be someone else. I have friends. Who care about me. Who want to spend time with me. Who do spend time with me. Who think about me when we're not together. Who don't get sick of me.

And I just. I'm so happy to be me, and I'm so happy to finally really have genuine friends in my life. I couldn't have had this if I hadn't transitioned, if I hadn't started being open and honest with people about who I am, so that they could see me and see my spark, which I had all but hidden away. But they sure as fuck see it now.

Today is a really good day.

I know people are trying to explain something to me with nuance, and I'm truly not trying to be a jerk, but all I keep hearing is that the violence we experience as trans women is actually privilege. But not just any privilege, but specifically male privilege. Because we are men. Or at least because people think we are. Which is its own privilege. And we should be so privileged to live through this violence in order to get *benefits* that make our lives easier (at this point we disregard the violence). I'm just not buying it. Having the effects of our literal torture, self sacrifice, and violence called privilege is just not making its way to me.

I know the why.

I just don't know the how

to resolve any of it.

@iris@neuromatch.social I really appreciate this take. And I think your phrasing puts it best when you say "This is where I think the concept of privilege fails us..." Like. I understand and acknowledge that *something* happens that many perceive simplistically as privilege, but yeah, it just feels like the idea of it also simplistically being framed as "male privilege" is the wrong lens, and worse, it feels like a harmful lens when applied to trans women and transfem people.

@deirdre@corteximplant.com Thank you for this. This is probably the best explanation to at least get me much closer to seeing this perspective in a much clearer light, even if I'm still trying to sort through it. Part of me is wondering if Mulan was experiencing male privilege when she went off to war. Or, because of the work I've been a part of, I often come back to this: if the Afghan girls who pose as boys, in all aspects of life, so that the women in their family have an escort in public just so they can go to the market without being murdered by the Taliban (it's illegal to do so without a male chaperone, even if that chaperone is a child), if these girls are experiencing male privilege. They're forced into posing for survival, but if they're found out, it's dangerous. Is it male privilege for a cis girl to pretend to be a boy, to "live as a boy", to survive under the threat of the Taliban, and to also worry about getting caught? I can't with a straight face call this privilege (let alone male privilege), only survival.

@natasha@lgbtqia.space (to be clear, none of what I have been saying is meant as oppositional to the experience of trans men or to invalidate their experiences in any way) To your point, regardless of enjoyment, you kind of make my own point: it was made easier by *presenting* male. It's only through the sacrifice of self that made it possible. These things aren't afforded to trans women because of who they are, but because of the pain and punishment they have endured in order to survive. How can it be privilege if it's paid for through sacrifice of self? Which is not to say that other forms of intersectional privilege don't exist. A white trans woman still has white privilege that's afforded to her because of her whiteness. But a trans woman has male privilege because of what? Her male-ness? That doesn't sit right. If a person of color has to code switch to get work among white people, I have a hard time believing that they're experiencing white privilege. They're not white-- they're being forced to perform whiteness. Likewise, trans women who perform the part of a man for survival are not experiencing male privilege. They're not male-- they're performing maleness.

@faithisleaping@anarres.family absolutely intersectional and agreed on all of this except for the part here where some aspect was improved because of supposed male privilege, but the point is that you aren't a man, you paid for that so-called privilege through sacrifice. If a cis woman sacrificed in order to get the same thing, we wouldn't say that she was experiencing male privilege. We would say she sacrificed to get it. Trans women have to sacrifice who they are in order to get so called privilege. But we don't say that she sacrificed, we say that she had male privilege. Because it's not afforded to her because she's male, it's afforded to her because of the sacrifices that she made in order to be perceived as male, to be acceptable within that context, even if only for survival.

@celestestormysea@yiff.life moreover, this extrapolation treats trans women as inherently being men simply because of the way they are perceived, disregarding that they are not, in fact, men, and that they had to sacrifice and perform in order to pretend to be men. They didn't receive those benefits because of who they are, but because of what they sacrificed.

Would anyone be interested in Hitchcock recommendations and/or breakdowns/reviews as I go along?

@celestestormysea@yiff.life in what sense? I take issue with the idea that a person who is not a man can experience male privilege, especially given how much they have to sacrifice in order to get something. In any other context, we don't say a person of color experiences white privilege when they sacrifice in order to achieve or obtain a thing typically afforded to white people through white privilege. We don't say cis women experience male privilege when they sacrifice in order to achieve or obtain a thing typically afforded to men through male privilege. We don't say gay people experience straight privilege when they sacrifice in order to achieve or obtain a thing typically afforded to straight people through straight privilege-- even when the gay person is stealth or in the closet. But when it's trans women sacrificing and we happen to obtain something, we're just men experiencing male privilege.
