I scanned a lot (not all) of the #Ubuntu launchpad PPAs, to see which ones are most popular. PPAs (Personal Package Archives) are Deb repos that developers can use to build and share software, libraries, and anything else you can jam in a deb package.

The #Ubuntu Studio team has been working flat out this cycle — new hosting, rewritten apps, squashed bugs. 💪
If you use it (or just love what they do), a donation goes a long way: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-studio-needs-donations/80295?u=popey

Ubuntu Studio Needs Donations

26.04 LTS is about a week away, and we need donations. As stated before, our web hosting is changing providers, which is now an extra monthly expense. The migration is complete, but we’re just waiting for the nameservers to be changed. Additionally, several old bugs have been fixed this cycle, and we even rewrote both Ubuntu Studio Installer and Audio Config apps from the ground up! None of this comes without a cost. For Kubuntu users, many of these bugs being squashed affect Kubuntu direc...

Is the phrase: "12.5% service charge is added for parties of 1 or more" in common parlance in the UK (outside London) these days? I nearly dropped my Krugerrands.

Whee! A fresh new episode of Linux Matters is out. In which I am grateful to IBM for the LinuxOne project, giving me access to an S/390 - for free! They must be mad, or really nice, or a bit of both.

In November, 12 GitHub repos had a SKILL md file.
By March, 5,460.
Most never get touched again after they're committed.

We sent 622 PRs trying to fix the worst offenders. Here's what we learned — including the maintainer who politely told us to bugger off:

@Xalior I am sad that the Asahi Linux project isn't able to move a little faster, and unlock some of those tricky hardware and driver challenges. It's truly wonderful on my M1 Air. The lack of HDMI (display out whatever) is pretty much the only daily-driver-blocker for my use cases, and I'm a weirdo with lots of strange uses - like yourself.

@cibersheep@mastodont.cat That's typically what they do, yes. They're probing to see what gets through automated review. Likely there are revisions that didn't make it. They're trying to figure out if they can make something bad that won't be detected.

@dgr@toot.li Well, the maintainer is also the debian package maintainer for php. The repos don't move fast enough to keep up with what they're doing, so I can't see it working inside the official repo structure. Launchpad is a nice way to do it.

Why is Unicode PILE OF POO emoji called :hankey: in Signal?
Yes, after the South Park character. Type :poo: and it suggests a poodle first. A poodle. Discord calls it :poop: which is fine, I suppose.
We'll send cartoon faeces, but we draw the line at naming it accurately.
