Is It ‘Soda’ or ‘Pop’? - Word Smarts

“Soda” and “pop" are the two most common terms for carbonated soft drinks, and strong linguistic indicators of where in the country you call home. Both are correct, but we can tell where you're from based on what you call your bubbly beverage.

This pair of maps is going viral again (FYI they're not based on real data, just vibes, but they do *feel* about right).

But as far as I can tell everyone's missing the intended black humor here that these are a clear reference to the maps of Palestinian land loss since 1947 that were ubiquitous six months ago. For example: https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/172jcvk/palestinian_loss_of_land_1947_to_2023_1300x1900/

The 1947 to 2023 Pop vs Soda map currently rending on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/1cdnb7i/the_word_soda_takes_over/
