I’ve tried to make the same argument understood with cloud services and vendor lock-in generally. It’s crazy how companies find a few percent pay increase for employees onerous, but are perfectly willing to give the life-blood of their services to a vendor who can arbitrarily raise prices down the road. Lots of companies are seeing this already with Broadcom and VMWare

I'm rather suspicious of this story given the timing and the increase of "we need online ID to protect the children" narratives being pushed by various government

We had a big spider that did similar outside the bathroom window. Every time somebody went in at night to use the can, lights on=bugs in web. I was sad when fall came and that spider died. She was a clever one

TBH, there was another guy but he is either dead or disappeared now. But the factor of whether people get tried for their crimes is much more about wealth and connection than gender IMO. Even in jail she's given preferential treatment, and I'm sure there are other women who have been involved with Epstein's Island of evil in additional to the rich men.

I mean, I do get it. Some people take on debt as a way to live beyond their means when they could still live a "comfortable" life without the glamour or "keeping up with the Jones". The $80k+ gas guzzling truck bought on credit - that's only used for driving to work and grocery trips - is a good example of this. But a better way of saying this is "live within your means", but it's becoming increasingly impossible to do this and have a standard of living that's just "decent shelter and healthy food" (or even, "enough food") which should be a bare minimum

Steam is big in there too. It makes sense for both companies because they make their money from content. If an animation or game development team/studio can produce better quality content, cheaper and faster, that just means more money for the company providing access to said content.

So uh, do they have a list of domains that should be blocked then? One that we can check out to... uh... ensure our kids aren't going there and stuff.

It's a bit of both, but the gender problem is at least partially derived from the fact that the larger portion of assholes at the top are men. Getting rid of them or clipping their wings would likely be overall better for women. Replacing them with a billionaire-class of women would not.

Yes. The pedodent is supported by the billionaire class and in turn funnels even more taxpayer dollars to then and his own family. The billionaires in turn help manufacture of amplify the conflicts he feeds upon.

Bezos has the phallic rockets. Musk has the propaganda machine and electoral tampering. Thiel working in the deathbots and Skynet Zuckerberg maybe? Or maybe Ellison, he's got property in a good location for volcano-lairs.

Yeah this is a huge thing with vehicles. I like my Japanese cars and typically have had either Toyota or Honda. Neither was problem-free by any stretch, but at the same time the ENGINES tended to be very reliable with routine maintenance (belt/oil/etc changes) and the other stuff parts were always available and generally not too expensive. My car's did spend a decent amount of time in the shop, but at 360,000km the engine in my old Camry was still running like a champ even if it burned a little bit of oil and certain parts of the body were becoming more bondo than metal. When small things failed, I'd grab a new one from the hardware store or in some cases the wrecker. I was - with assistance - able to do basic general repairs like belts, brakes, and a clutch in my relatives' garage. We did fuck up the timing slightly once but the engine just stalled out without any permanent damage (whew). I'll also add that a lot of people who drove the more "efficient" foreign cars tended to treat them nicely whereas versus domestics or sporty vehicles. The mindset of the owner matters too. These days... fuck. I can't even easily change the stereo out on my current car - and that's now over a decade old - because it's tied into the side/rear camera system, front display, and a bunch of other shit. I think there's like one head unit that will still handle that stuff but it's hard to get and even then there's no guarantee. Domestic stuff is even worse, with certain trucks unable to source key parts within months of the warranty ending. There's one model where the ECU failed regularly and the supply of replacements dried up, others in shortages due to "supply chain" issues etc, and a whole run of GMC vehicles from between '21 and '24 with connecting rod issues (6.2L v8) that have a major backlog in parts even for in-warranty repairs. My wife's car... well it's an EV which - while it's great not to be buying gas at these prices, the company absolutely is not building these to be convenient to service, and we're lucky if the local dealer could do the more complex stuff it battery work much less a 3rd party mechanic (or me). I'm actually looking at some of the Chinese models which can have safer batteries that are built to be more easily swapped out, and China being what it is somebody will probably be able to make replacement parts for decades.

It's true that normal books *do* experience wear and tear, but looking at what my local library has I'd say that many or most can still least many years before needing to be retired or replaced. As we're seeing with Amazon, with ebooks it's really the readers that expire over time

Canada, and still not mandatory here apparently. Which is weird because a lot of our automotive requirements do tend to follow the US due to common production lines and other such factors

I’m not sure if would even matter. Dude could cough up blood, give a death rattle, and then keel over. His “team” will load him into an ambulance and claim he’s getting expert treatment, with a miraculous recovery in a few days with pictures which “totally aren’t AI generated”. Or even, he does croak, all the bad stuff gets laid at his feet and diehard Republicans feel safe voting for the rest again.

It’s a bit of both. Yes, Republicans have a bad track record in general, bit also has they’ve gotten worse and more blatant about it. I don’t know if this guy is a “Republican who voted in 2024 and now regrets the choices coming home to roost” or “somebody who has been a long time Republican but at least had enough brains not to vote for the racist goon squad more recently”, but at least there’s some growing awareness there. The Republican party is gone. Now you’ve got the Appeasement party and the MAGA party and both could really benefit from jettisoning a bunch the members that have pushed them towards such and away from the people.
