If you work in IT and aren’t experimenting with AI models, you’re making life harder — or even paving your own path to becoming unemployable. When management comes up with buzzword-driven ideas, you should not only push back but also show where AI can add real value. Saying ‘AI is bad’ just gets you labelled as a grumpy person who can’t move with the times :/

@alda That is one of the reasons why I stopped watching @mkbhd videos — they always play by default in Russian. Like, “someone” decided that if Russia is the biggest neighbouring country, then everyone should be watching videos in Russian… To be honest, the fact that many Russians use VPNs to avoid censorship, and probably choose nearby countries, is not helping YouTube’s algorithms work better in this part of the world.
About the Tilde machine translation API — it looks like quite a decent price to me: €17.50 per 1M characters, which is cheaper than DeepL API or Google Translate https://tilde.ai/machine-translation/machine-translation-api/
fyi, it's a model built and hosted in Europe, plus encryption is used and translation data is not stored, analysed, or used for model training. All data is deleted after the user receives the translation. #AI

To be honest, it was a huge improvement that I fixed my @pixelfed server so it can handle pictures and videos from @threads@threads.net and Bluesky.
Folks on Threads post huge albums, but on Mastodon only the first four photos are visible.
What I don’t know is whether, if I @ojars@pixel.kapteinis.lv repost something what came from Threads or Bluesky, people on other Pixelfed servers can see it.

@fahrni Every fourth year we also have the Song and Dance Festival, which always ends on Sunday, so that means Monday is a holiday.
If there is a national holiday on Tuesday or Thursday, we swap one of the Saturdays with that Monday or Friday in between to get a longer break — and one less lazy ‘working day’ Saturday.

@fahrni When the Pope visited us, it was a holiday for us, even though only about 8% of the population goes to church at least once a year.
And we also got a national holiday when Team Latvia took third place in the World Championship in hockey — for sure, more people went out to see our team than the Pope.
