Just wait till you hear about popular Norwegian names, like Simen (pronounced exactly the way you think). Also make sure you mind your fart when on the road. Norwegian police are quite strict about that and could give you a fartsbot if you don’t comply.

Canadians are surprisingly confusing with their measurements when they’re so easy to understand about most other things.

Oh-hohoh, you think it ended? The embers have been lying there since then, glowing with rage. There’s still plenty of people left in the generation that benefited most from power and corruption in the CCCP.

I consider it plausible that someone actually posted it and meant it, some people I work with have reached the same mental stage (slightly above toddler). Bear in mind; these people are allowed to vote and drive cars.

Known as 過労死 (_karoshi_) in Japan, sadly not a new concept. This is the result of the misconception that working harder will yield better results - it only leads to stagnation and ruin. Hoping that more people will realise this and initiate some change in the work culture; not only in Asia, but in the West too... The work culture in both the US, UK and many parts of the EU needs some serious overhaul.

This is also a question for our friends in the UK: if I weigh 13 stone, would those be large stones or just medium ones? Would those stones be granite or some other type? I’d prefer pumice, if I can have that.

It could be a play on words based on the root verb 切る (cut). 切ろ死 (kiroshi) could then mean something like "cut to death", a very reassuring name for a surgical implant corporation.

I would much rather prefer that if people don't like to curse or use vulgar language, they use richer vocabulary instead of masked versions of the vulgarities they don't want to utter in public. People can be insulted and degraded in the most beautiful ways, and it's a marvel to behold.

Same here. There was well-intentioned (though silly) joke. However, right after I explained why I was using the leash, they were very understanding. Also met random people in Manila who praised me for it and said that it really needs to be more common (if there is a city where you need it, it’s Manila)

When you’re walking in a public place overrun with people, no separation between road and sidewalk, multiple other hazards and a toddler who only moves by running full speed, I do not see a problem with putting a harness and lead on the kid. Parents try their best to pay attention at all times, but when you’re this tired, it’s good to have the insurance. If you want to judge someone’s parenting, judge the ones who ignore their kids so they can spend more time on their phones

A friendly tip from someone who did that and stayed abroad for 15 years: be active in meeting new friends save joining in activities. They will help a lot when homesickness hits. The first hit was normally around two months in for me and my fellow students, after the excitement of being in a new place has subsided a bit. It might take the whole thing from “wow, I’m all by myself” to “shit, I’m all by myself”. That will pass pretty soon. You’re capable of far more than you know, you got this. The second hit is about two years in and carries more of a longing feeling. If you can, put money aside for a ticket to visit home by then. Good luck, and have fun! You’re about to have the time of your life.

See the good. Yes, the church has a past (and present) fraught with problems and unforgivable acts, but if you think one person, even its supreme leader, can stop it during their lifetime, you’re overly optimistic. Do you think replacing the president will fix the US? Do you think Japan is unlovable now because of what they did in the past?
