Some job news to share!

I feel really lucky to be stepping into this (remote-friendly) role, which will let me both return to my roots in libraries and carry forward the work around advancing #OpenScience that I've so enjoyed doing over the past three years at @PLOS@mstdn.science.

Harkening back to other step changes led by @PLOS@mstdn.science (the invention of the megajournal; a strong data sharing policy), I genuinely think this initiative to move #BeyondTheArticle and #BeyondTheAPC has the potential to make a major impact on scientific publishing.

Exciting :OpenAccess: special issue on #publishing in #Africa.

In the opening editorial, Mame-Penda Ba envisions an "afrostructure" of scientific publishing, endogenously financed and built around values like openness and multilingualism.

My first new initiative at the Association of Research #Libraries!

Book-length studies of scholarly communities can signal changes in research practice, but library leaders are often too busy to read them.

This blog series aims to distill actionable insights in the key of #EpistemicDiversity.

Introducing Repertoires: A Series on Scholarly Ways of Working — Association of Research Libraries

This blog series will review book-length studies of scholarly communities to inform library leaders about changes in research practice.

Replying to
There is also a line that crystallizes why I find writing separate Results and Discussion sections so difficult: “Medieval history does not analyse the evidence to create empirical findings which are interpreted in a subsequent step but tightly integrates the analysis of empirical evidence with its interpretation, with few actions being identifiable as purely analytical or purely interpretive.”

My colleague and I spoke with IMLS senior program officer Ashley Sands about the agency's new public access policy guidance, including the importance of developing #OpenScience norms in the library and museum research community.

Great opening line: “Nowadays we are all doing multimodal #anthropology, perhaps clumsily or unreflexively or even ambivalently.”

A worthwhile effort to frame #ResearchSecurity in terms of researcher agency and relationality instead of compliance, although it does seem to set up the mononational researcher and institution as the baseline.

Curtis Brundy and Joel Thornton on #PaperMills as a publishing integrity issue. What can libraries do?

✔️ Improve processes for end-to-end retraction
✔️ Invest in non-APC open access models
✔️ Support research integrity investigations

Exciting to see a demo of the NeuroLibre platform for reproducible preprints at their launch event in Montreal.

One offhand line would surely throw HSS researchers for a loop: “What remains of a paper when you remove the text?”

As #23andMe gets sold off, Duana Fullwiley's book shows how race gets encoded in the categories that structure genome science and why libraries should ensure that research impact services retain a critical outlook.

The latest in my Repertoires series for the Association of Research Libraries!

Just came across this post by a now-elder in my #Quaker meeting, written upon being asked to take on a daunting service role.

Asked recently to do the same, my instinct was to beg off but I'm glad I concluded what she did: "Not risking can be the wrong answer, too."

A methodologist's take on surveys about (declining) #trust in science: "Researchers ... need more granular data than direct 'how much do you trust?' measures if they hope to understand what leads people to trust scientists."
