mastodon 4.5.5Hello! I'm Kattni. I am a creator, programmer, technical writer, maker, photographer, intermittent chef, classically trained vocalist, air plant cultivator, and fledgling synth nerd. I am passionate about learning, mentoring, community, and sharing my knowledge in an approachable way. I am tolerated by a cat and three kittens who continue to let me live with them.
I am a member of the core development team for the BeeWare project. My focus has been primarily documentation, along with working on learning more about the codebase. This has included a serious restructure of the project's information architecture, in an effort to improve the contribution experience.

Alt-text for profile image: image of a woman, from the shoulders up, slightly smiling , with purple hair and brown eyes, two lip rings on the left side, wearing glasses, a necklace with rainbow gems in it, and a black shirt with a square neckline. Background is green leaves on vines.

I was awakened early this morning by a voice call. My pretty girl Sachiko had stopped eating a few days ago, and had spent the night at the vet's office. Brian had called me from there. She had a massive infection. Brian said she'd gotten worse in the half hour he'd been there. Her breathing was getting rough while the vet explained the situation to me. It was clear she had no more time. I am currently on the opposite side of the planet - I get home in 5 days. I had no choice but to give the ok to euthanise her from here. She is gone now. I didn't get to say goodbye.
I'm not alone today. I am infinitely grateful to my friend for being with me for the day. I am grateful to everyone offering support from afar.
Turns out there's a shirt that matches my dress, and this person even attended my talk! Lucky for me, I ran into them at the lifts in the evening. #PyConAU

My first PyCon AU talk is up! I'm actually pretty pleased with how it turned out, which is saying something. Enjoy!
Sydney, I am in you. (For the next 6 hours.)

Look! It me! #PyConAU
@alice@lgbtqia.space That's really helpful. Thank you!
Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts on my North Bay Python talk - Bumbling into BeeWare: From typo-fix to core developer. It was a tough talk to write, and tough to present, but it was important to me to share my story. Those of you who may think everyone else has already shared their thoughts, so you shouldn't bother: you're wrong, I would love to hear your thoughts, too. #NBPy
@mahryekuh@hachyderm.io Call out by Rachell in the final #PyConUS keynote with Tim!
@benno@eigenmagic.net Called out by Amanda Casari at #PyConUS in her keynote.

My talk: live-tooted; a thread. Thank you @phildini@wandering.shop
Happy Solar New Year! My goal for this quarter is to figure out what kind of work I want to start looking for, and to put together a solid resume. To that end, I have a favor to ask. If you have any recent experience with looking for work, or any experience hiring folks, I'd like to pick your brain. If you've been looking for work or found a job, I want to know what worked for you and what didn't. If you're a hiring manager, I want to know what you look for, what kinds of questions you ask, and any other advice or ideas you may have. My initial list of questions is short, but I'm sure it will evolve as I talk to more folks. If you're up for having a chat with me, let me know and I will send you a meeting schedule link.
Boosts greatly appreciated.

@ryancheley@mastodon.social Well, fuck. I wish for you that this wasn't happening. I went through a breast cancer scare a decade ago. Spoiler: I'm fine. But it was a seriously fucked up time for me. There is nothing right to say here. Pulling for you with everything I have. 🫂🥄
