Here's a really basic history lesson:
#Aotearoa #NewZealand is the only British colony where the indigenous people, Māori, declared sovereignty over the land.
He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Nu Tireni, is the 1835 Declaration of Independence of New Zealand. This is a foundational document by which northern Māori chiefs asserted their collective sovereign authority and independence as a nation.
James Busby assisted in having this Declaration immediately sent to the colonial office in Britain where it was finally received by King William VI who recognised #Māori authority by registering the first flag of Nu Tireni - Te Kara. By July 1839, another 18 rangatira (chiefs) from around Aotearoa had put their mark to the parchment.
When the founding document of NZ #TeTiritioWaitangi was signed by most not all Māori rangatira (Chiefs) 1840 it was an agreement between 2 sovereigns - Māori and the British Crown for co-existence in partnership.
Māori never ceded their sovereignty but remained powerless against the colonial govt that never honored the founding document.
Today, the Treaty of Waitangi still protects #Aotearoa #NewZealand from foreign exploitation of much of NZ's resources which is why these hard right #NZPol agents of groups such as #AtlasNetwork are determined to dismantle the treaty for foreign exploitation.
Follow the Money.
If I was running for #NZPol govt I'd be announcing a policy to abolish #NZFirst as an illegitimate political party for failing to honour or uphold the foundational constitutional document of #Aotearoa #NewZealand - #TeTiritioWaitangi #ToitūTeTiritihttps://www.rnz.co.nz/news/politics_election-2026/1593210/new-zealand-first-announces-plan-to-abolish-waitangi-tribunal

I don’t understand this entire dumb arse #NZFirst idea about buying back the BNZ which was pilfered from #NZ by Faye & Richwhite back in November 1992 and sold to the National Australia Bank for NZ$1.48 billion.
Buying back the BNZ is estimated to cost NZ upwards of $24B NZD which is insane considering NZ already has a state owned bank - Kiwibank.
Apart from this being a colossal waste of money it’s also illogical. If NZ was smart they would invest just a portion of that $24B into Kiwibank so it could compete with the Australian banks that have been ripping NZ off for decades.
Also, why the hell isn’t the #NZPol govt doing all its government banking with Kiwibank instead of the Australian owned Westpac Bank?

Just heard Q of the Ed Sheeran Opportunist party saying to Guyon Espiner on RNZ that if National and Labour are similarly placed in terms of votes after election they will have to wait for special votes to be counted before making any decision and if the 2 parties are still too close to separate they would need to negotiate with both parties.
FFS - why are they even running when politics is obviously not their thing.

I'll never forget, I was a twitter user back then and when that #NZPol Eminemesque ad dropped I posted a youtube link of it to #Eminem suggesting I thought it sounded like this #NZPol RW party had ripped off "Lose Yourself" it appears #Eminem didn't disagree. 🤣

One has to assume if the Nazi Party polled higher than the other parties in the election the Opportunist party would support them forming a government.
I’m old enough to remember Qiulae Wong saying people should be given the opportunity to change and she is confident of being able to change people while answering a question about whether they could work with Winston Peters in government. 🤡
Bob Marley
Waiting in Vain
Lot's of the footage of Bob was shot on his tour of #NewZealand in 1979.
I was still at school at the time but a good school friend of mine was over in Parnell mowing his grandmother's lawn up the road from the White Heron where the Whalers were staying.
The band had all gathered on the big field at the bottom of the road so my friend went down to have a look at what was going on and ended up playing football with them.
He still reckons Bob was the best footballer he'd ever played with. ❤️ 🧡 💚 💛

Just so we are all clear the #NZPol Speaker has just declared the current NZ Coalition of Corruption is more than happy for RACISM to be used as a legitimate response to opposition members they disagree with in Parliament.

Of course the counter argument to National ruling out working with the Opportunity Party, with leader Christopher Luxon saying “National would not do business with a party that wants to raise taxes” is the #NZGreens want to lower taxes for 96% of NZ taxpayers.
#NZPol
I suspect the #NZPol PM won’t be too busy to talk or take disciplinary action against NZ’s foreign minister Winston Peters, who has brought international shame to #Aotearoa #NewZealand and has put NZ’s $40B+ annual trade with China at risk by being a senile racist moron who’s well overstayed his time in parliament, after November when Luxon will be the fool formerly known as Prime Minister and Peters the cooker formerly known as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Here’s Luxon disagreeing with John Campbell on Morning Report today.

Wow, ruling out working with the Opportunist Party is a big call by National.
I can’t really understand why they have made this decision but suspect it’s due to losing many of their supporters to TOP.

It’s becoming more difficult to understand that there’s still enough people in #Aotearoa #NewZealand to get the NZ First Nazi and Cookers Party over the 5% electoral threshold to enter #NZPol parliament.
Here’s hoping the idiots supporting this pack of scoundrels and rogues wake up to the reality of who they are voting for.

Luxon doesn’t think for himself, if it is a cunning stunt it would have been thought up by his advisers.

I guess the other thing with Luxon and National is any decision to form a coalition with Top may not be solely up to them. I suspect Winston would be as enthusiastic about being in govt with Top as he was with the Greens.
It was NZF that kept the Greens outside of cabinet in the first Ardern govt.

The reason why this is a personal #JukeboxFridayNight #History for me is I was there that night.
Story goes Public Enemy had just arrived in Melbourne that day to start their Australia tour and got invites to Prince's gig. Chuck D was told during the start of this bass jam by one of Prince's people that Prince wanted him to come up on stage.

A moment of self indulgence which is best avoided by anyone too fussed about musicianship.
In 2016 I had the amazing privilege of meeting #Prince after his piano and a mic concert in Auckland.
I had managed to get an invite to his after party where he sat with some woman friend and his security behind a roped off area where my wife and I happened to be dancing.
Prince looked kinda bored sitting there eating a plate of nuts and pieces of fruit. The DJ was well below par, not sure the DJ even knew who Prince was, anyhow I took it upon myself to entertain Prince so began pulling out all my best Prince dance moves as he sat there laughing.
This went on for about 20 minutes until he decided to leave. He walked up to me as he left and just smiled. My heart was beating so hard I'm sure it was audible. I thanked Prince for sharing his music with us. He gave me a look that seemed to cut through to my very soul. And with that he was gone.
About 6 weeks later my wife phoned me to tell me #Prince was dead.
A few months later my sister was looking after a friends grand piano so I went over to her house with a couple of cameras and a mic and recorded this tribute.
It is a jammed medley of Prince tunes.

The only problem I see with a 3 term limit is there’s always the possibility of having an exceptional politician having to step down when they still have much more to offer. Particularly in the case of most MPs needing at least 2 terms in parliament before having the experience to run for PM.
For example Chloe Swarbrick would not be eligible to run in this election.
