Recent events, and EMF prep

Recently… We’ve been visiting some interesting events lately. In May, Barry was at Makers Central at the NEC, to meet some of his maker and tech heroes. Andy went to Swindon to check out Retrofest UK, which was a great event celebrating all things retro computing and gaming. It was fantastic to see so many people enjoying the nostalgia of old hardware and software. Electromagnetic Field A couple of the HackWimbledon regulars (Andy and Barry, again) are heading to Electromagnetic Field next month

UNO Q

Last year, the venerable Arduino - one of the OG Open Source maker companies of the past 20 years - was acquired by Qualcomm, and we were pretty uncertain what to expect. There’s certainly been a lot of discussion about the drawbacks, and changes to the terms and conditions and such. Nevertheless, we were intrigued by the Arduino UNO Q board(s) that were announced at the same time - the classic Arduino UNO board form factor, with microcontroller, but paired up with a Qualcomm processor capable o

Arduino Days 2026

On Sunday 29th March, we have our Arduino Days event. Technically it is just after the official Arduino Days which are on March 27-28, but we already had our meetup scheduled for the 29th, so we thought we’d go with it. As always, this is a free event, open to all. We do ask you to have a look at the About page, particularly the How it works and Can I join? sections, to get an idea of what we do and how we operate. We also ask that you register for the event via the link above, so we can get an

Micro displays & building connections

A small meetup this week, in more ways than one! Andy had seen some articles about using an ESP32-powered LCD as a miniature monitor but he had not been able to get the exact model of devboard mentioned, and ended up with a slightly larger 1.9" screen instead of the 1.14" model. It turns out that the original code was (probably?) written for Windows, as well, so he had to jump through some hoops with Python, Wayland, and desktop portals to get things to work.

Early March update

A quick update on what’s been going on in the last few weeks, and what’s coming up… Firstly, Barry and Neil went to Cambridge for the CamJam Raspberry Pi birthday event on Feb 28th, and had a great time chatting to people about our meetup, and sharing some of their projects.

A perfect mousetrap (& Arduino Days)

We had a great event on Sunday - our #ArduinoDays26 event at HackWimbledon. It was great to meet some new folks and to see some familiar faces as well. It wasn’t only about Arduino, though…
