Aside: Are “AI Boosters” the Real Disadvantaged-Marginalised-Subaltern Party? No, and this is an extremely suspicious framing. The largest structural and monetary support ever leveraged is being put behind “AI” rollout. Great article. Still working through it, but full of excellent, clearheaded points like this.

Corporate videos featured in the Gamers Nexus investigation show LG representatives saying: “We know who is in the LG household,” and, “We know which devices are there.” Whatever happened to just selling the fucking product and taking the profits. You’re already presumably benefiting from the exploitation nature through extraction and ewaste, of workers in mines and assembly plants, of a docile consumer base. Now they’ve just got to squeeze just that little bit extra and see if they can sell information stolen from people’s homes.

It happens when you start making it happen. It’s labour day long weekend where I’m at. If it’s a long weekend for you there’s probably something happening that you could get involved in, lending your skills or just emotional support. Like I just got roped into an action when I’d much rather be staying at home, but you’ll never know what’s happening until you put yourself out there. A global climate crisis is coming that I can’t do anything about, but I can do my part to build local resilience so the people I know have a better chance of surviving in one piece.

Jesus Christ, there’s more money in a living planet than a dead one. The moment regular people like you just start expecting corporations to do better, and punish the ones that don’t, this all gets fixed in one or two financial quarters.

Great comment. I also find routine critical to getting shit done. Even to the point where I’ll need to symbolically enact the routine if I don’t have the time to do it properly. So like if I have no time to workout I’ll just do a single pushup and tell myself “whatever! Today that counts!” obviously there’s a risk of that becoming the new routine, but at least if I’m still doing some part of the habit I feel it’s still in play and I can work on devoting more time and effort to it.

I don’t have technical advise but congrats on taking your privacy seriously. It sounds to me like you’re fundamentally doing very well, probably learning a lot, even if your setup isn’t ideal right now. From my perspective, it’s never going to be truly ideal—like perfect. Migrating and moving around, adapting and optimising, are how you maintain a good posture. Especially when dealing with companies or even other people like solution maintainers, you’re going to get disappointed in some of them and have to migrate. If you were happy staying put you’d be on Windows 11 complaining on Facebook right now. ;) So pat yourself on the back for that win, friend—you’re doing it!

Whoa, that's so toxic. I'm glad I switched my donation to Delta. Plus it just feels so much better to use. I don't have evidence for this but Signal *feels* just like an app right before it's sold off to a megacorp. I can't put my finger on it...

I want to complain, but for most people this will be true. The most boring stock standard fitness and lifestyle advice will, and it pains me to admit this, absolutely improve your quality of life in every way. It's not like you're guaranteed to feel amazing, but the bads won't feel as bad, and you'll just feel a little bit better than if you did nothing. Fml but the normies had this one right 🤷

I feel that. I've come down with a really bad cold this month and just stopped everything for 2 weeks, and really slow getting back into it. I feel like such garbage from just that bit of inactivity. I was actually shocked by how quickly the wheels fell off, I started to hurt, feel a sluggishness that I couldn't shake, feel more depressed and hopeless... Working out helps but it's taking me a while to climb out of this hole. It's so hard, it's like I've lost the ability to believe I could feel better, let alone *want* to workout.

Not saying it’s the case here, but I’ve never heard this argument raised in good faith, like by someone who is interested in reducing the amount of suffering caused by humans to non-humans. It’s always brought up as some thought-terminating catch-22 device to just keep doing wtf ever you want to do anyway. I am genuinely curious what you think we should do with this information, though. Like how has it influenced your own actions?

The “spreads” are good, maybe the fake feta, but generally agree that dsiya is basically only good if you’re early days and struggling, or if your friends insist on making a regular pizza and don’t know how to make that interesting without cheese so here’s some daiya idk, I guess it’s edible.

I actually went about it the other way. After seeing how bad dairy cows have it in the daily (I have in-laws who are dairy farmers) compared to cows raised for their flesh, I tried giving up just cheese, because it’s the one thing I told myself I could never do. I remember specifically saying to a lactose intolerant person that I would kill myself if I couldn’t eat cheese lol. I can’t imagine eating cheese now, just the smell grossed me out. Like I was cleaning a plastic case that held cheddar (my partner’s) and I swear I couldn’t get the stink out of my fingers for hours. Even cow milk which I used to think was neural and creamy smells and tastes funky and cheesy. Anyway, that’s all to illustrates how malleable tastes are. I think it must have been so hard to quit, because I remember what I said and did, but not how I felt. It’s like the urge just faded away. Like it was a temptation one moment, and then the next I forgot what I ever liked about it. Anyway from there reducing and eliminating other products was easy, since I’d already fought the animal product boss battle.
