It’s doubly bonkers because a strong EV push would be one of the big things that can actually make consumers far less sensitive to the price of oil. Like, the regime literally has a policy they could use that would significantly improve public sentiment on this shit. “Normal” republicans would tie that up into strategic independence and so on. But the regime is just too fucking stupid and gung-ho on Exxon et al to take that course.

You remember the whole scandal with Intel and how their CPUs were bricking a few years ago? GN also did that. That was (iirc) their first major foray into investigative reporting, and they haven’t pumped the brakes at all. They are unironically one of the most incisive investigative journalism outlets I’ve ever come across.

As an aside: There will be some quick tells as to whether incoming new Apple CEO John Ternus is more of the same, including seeing whether or not Apple follows Google’s lead and buckles to our mad king’s obsession with trying to rename large bodies of water to feed his gargantuan ego. John Apple is a spineless fuckwit and immediately capitulated

The thing is, Apple was the exception in terms of the “AI” circlejerkery. Not trying to fanboi for them - simply pointing out that they are nowhere near the proportional outlay that the kool-aid drinkers are, in terms of ML spend.

Well, in normal circumstances, you have to give a shit about what the populace thinks to at least some degree, or they will vote you out. Which, to me, indicates that they’ve decided that doesn’t matter. Personally, I’m guessing they believe they control enough of the electoral process at this point such that voting doesn’t actually matter anymore.

I think part of what they’re trying to do is to declare federal supremacy and scrap CARB standards altogether. And the Tribunal of Six will probably give it to them. Idk why we even bother with courts anymore tbh

RTGs are subject to the issue of half-life - this is a consequence of that type of power source. Though, let’s be honest: we do not have any other sort of power generation technology that would be viable for literal decades on an interstellar space probe. And we definitely didn’t have a better alternative when they were launched.

Yeah so this isn’t gonna fly in any way, shape, or form. All of that will be cited by companies who are users as trade secrets and proprietary internal documentation. This is a great way for them to force their userbase away from their products. So, yeah… bold move, cotton. Let’s see how it plays out.

The system being discussed is not explicitly or exclusively useful in military contexts. There are a LOT of places where advanced beam forming and radar capabilities could be useful outside of that. Not to mention: in military applications, this is pretty definitely a defensive system.

I’m talking about HARM and friends because in terms of quickly executing a kill chain against a transmitting radar, antirad munitions are the gold standard. Sure, it can be done other ways. But it generally involves a lot more systems with relatively complex integration.

They’ve been saying that since pretty much immediately after Russia invaded, and haven’t changed it. Not an exhortation to respect the territorial boundaries of sovereign nations. Not supporting sanctions against the attacking country (Russia). No mention whatsoever of the grey-zone and subterfuge and repeated, systematic, brutal expansionism that Russia has engaged in since pretty much immediately after the Soviet Union fell. Just a “negotiated settlement”. What even is an equitable negotiated settlement would be with a country that launched an unprovoked invasion under cover of subterfuge that violates the Geneva Convention?

Well considering the Zed Zig lang devs have quietly distanced themselves from the Bun maintainer due to, as the lang devs describe it, “cowboy bullshit and vibe coding”, I’m not surprised that vibe coding in another language isn’t going well either. Note that this project used to be a poster child for Zed Zig lang, but is now (through no fault of Zed Zig lang or the lang devs) effectively divorcing from it. Edit: derp, lol

Microsoft, in a policy document, wrote that generative AI could “significantly disrupt the employment of the very people who generated the data on which the foundation model was trained […] LLMs are a product that destroys its supply chain.” If that’s not the very definition of a categorically unsustainable business model, I don’t know what the fuck is.

I support AOC specifically and the DSA in a broad sense - but what made me cancel my membership is the DSA’s pants-on-head stupid and geopolitically naïve stance on the Ukraine war. The DSA leadership appears to not be capable of understanding that it was an expansionist war of conquest started and maintained by the Russian Federation, opposes US + other international military aid to Ukraine, opposes sanctions on the Russian federation in response to their grey-zone tactics and unprovoked military invasion of Ukraine, decries “NATO expansionism” (ignoring the fact that “NATO expansionism” is not only a very direct quote from the Kremlin, but also that the nations in question joined - and continue to join - as a direct and pointed response to Russian expansionism), and seems to think the problem can be solved by gathering around a campfire and singing kumbaya. I hope that we eventually actually live in a consensus-oriented world where grievances are solved exclusively through diplomatic means… but that’s not today’s world. To pretend that it is is not only geopolitically naive to the point of self delusion, but strategically dangerous as well.
