You know how Mastodon skews older and tech-savvy? Well, I'm a Software Engineer who still thinks the 90s were just a couple of years ago :)

@sabik Too easy to verify, I'm afraid. But I *have* been using it for low-value work, mostly anything to do with communicating with my manager :).

@RonJeffries@mastodon.social Frankly, I'd do worse things to be able to provide for my family, and there aren't many options out there for software engineers who refuse to use LLMs. In fact, these days there aren't many options out there for software engineers at all.

CircleCI published their "State of Software Delivery" report.
For the median team:
- Output increased by 4%: 15% increase on feature branches but 7% decline on the main branch (because the generated code struggles to meet quality bars)
- Time to fix issues on main increased by 13%. On feature branches, with more LLM-generated code, the time to fix increased by 25%
- Rate of successful test passes on the main branch is 71%, the lowest it's been in five years

@kkarhan The job market is such that finding a position with a different company, let alone one that doesn't aggressively push LLM use, is non-trivial.

@pat Appreciate the support, but I'm afraid I'm on the wrong continent for this position :(

@JackMcGraw HR has been pushing all managers to use LLMs when writing performance reviews. My manager in particular was very clear he used LLMs when writing his reviews.
