C#? Make sure these are all considered so that you avoid proposing solutions that wouldn’t work. Outline the process flow. You need to know the road map. For UI design, that would be the process flow for the user’s experience. This might come in the form of storyboards, journey maps or other ways of describing the process, but everyone should be familiar with it before considering the UI. Demo the product, but show more than tell. 🧵 2/4 →

I cannot stress this one enough: A great user experience has a lot more showing than telling. The end user will need to know exactly how the product works with minimal explanation. Your demo should also require as little explanation as possible. As the saying goes, a good UI is like a joke: If you have to explain it, it’s not very good." https://www.https//smashingmagazine.com/2016/08/running-a-ui-design-critique/?utm_source=you.com 🧵 3/4 →

Surprising, though, transparency may actually work against understanding the authors message if it becomes too easy to read or fluent. Instead, introducing a certain amount of disfluency into the design — making the text less legible — may actually increase the reader’s ability to remember and process the information. https://cranfordteague.https//medium.com/typography-is-about-understanding-not-legibility-70274322a3a2 🧵 3/4 →

How To Run A UI Design Critique — Smashing Magazine

Design critiques are an important part of any product exploration. A good design critique is meant to explore the design, find where it is working and where it could be improved. If done well, design critiques allow everyone on the team to feel as if they have been heard and allow clients to give valuable feedback. In an agile environment, you will often have coders, project managers, product managers and people from other disciplines sitting in to give feedback, and you need to know how to quic

When I was a young design student in art school, I got my first lesson in how important portfolio presentation is for winning the day. I had been taking classes in 2D design, and getting mostly As with the occasional B+, but I was looking at an A for the semester. It all hinged on my final portfolio grade. But, since I thought that this was just a matter of me turning my work from the previous few months in a case, I was sure that my grade was in the bag. Boy, was I wrong. 🧵 2/4 →

The Solution: This is not an easy problem to solve, as it has more to do with interpersonal and group dynamics than it does with actual logic and reason. The best way I have found to deal with these situations is to simply listen without getting defensive. Let them have their say and consider what they say. Does what they have to say have merit? 🧵 2/3 →

I went to check out the final grade posting (this was pre-internet) and was gobsmacked to see a B− next to my name. How could this be, I'd never even gotten a grade below B+ the whole semester. In shock, I went to my teacher – who I was on friendly terms with–and asked what had happened. She told me that, yes, the work had all been A-level, but my portfolio was sloppy. It was unorganized with dog-eared pages that were difficult to flip through. 🧵 3/4 →

HR managers often have little or no design experience, and may only look at the resume, checking off a few boxes on their list (MS Word: check, Adobe Photoshop: check… hmmm, no mention of Windows NT experience? REJECTED!) and never go beyond that. Once past that formidable barrier, though, the hiring manager is usually a creative director or similar design manager. 🧵 2/4 →

How To Run A UI Design Critique "Establishing clear principles — not “rules” — at the beginning of every critique is imperative. Unlike rules, which are dogmatic and feel restrictive, principles help everyone understand the expectations but still allow for the freeform discussion that is needed. Chief among these expectations is for everybody to agree on why you are actually critiquing what you are looking at." 🧵 1/2 →

Why? Because if the photo is too finished there's nothing for me to do. I like to solve the problems that rough photos give me. It keeps me engaged, learning and active while drawing. I have no interest in tracing perfect photos. It's boring. While I love beautiful photos, I'm not interested in the level of skill and hardware required to achieve that level of fidelity. I shoot my photos for performance. "Donna is an international supermodel. 🧵 3/5 →
