Blokkade Naturalis

Naturalis: STOP taxidermying animals!!
Today, RTV Utrecht has a headline reporting that #Naturalis is going to publicly display Bram as a taxidermy specimen. [1]
Only 15% of the biodiversity that existed 300 years ago remains in the Netherlands [2]. And Naturalis wants to teach children that protected animals can be taxidermied as attractions.
This is a tragic continuation of the mistreatment of Bram. First, policies are implemented that fail to provide nature with sufficient peace and space. Then the wolf is blamed when it feels cornered. Next, Bram the wolf is labeled a problem. Then European regulations are bent to allow further loss of biodiversity. And finally, Bram is shot outside the rules, but this is overlooked. And now Naturalis wants to dishonor him even further by displaying his dead body. And by publicly showcasing his transformation into a product.
Just like a witch burning.
Desecration of a grave is a criminal offense when it involves humans. Why is that? And why should we teach children that it’s acceptable to treat animals disrespectfully?
Do we expect this to lead to a better world?
Naturalis, stop your medieval practices! A biodiversity museum shouldn’t be a morgue. Use alternatives that truly respect nature.
To stand up for Bram and the wild animals still remaining in the Netherlands, we’re blocking Naturalis on November 1.
