We’ve been working on improving the experience for conda users who need packages from both conda and PyPI, and we’re excited to invite you to try it!

🚀 With the latest conda release, you can now opt into the conda-pypi beta, which enables conda to discover, install, and manage Python packages from PyPI natively alongside your conda packages.

This is the year conda CLI gets a glow-up! 💅

Faster operations, clear progress, errors that actually help you fix things, better integration with PyPI, and new environment workflows.

Conda maintainer @danyeaw@fosstodon.org laid it all out in our latest blog post 👉️ https://conda.org/blog/2026-04-17-vision-for-conda-cli/

We'd love to hear what you think!

Conda ≠ PyPI

Conda isn’t just another Python package manager, it’s a multi-language, user-space distribution system.

In this 3-part series, we explore the fundamental differences between conda and PyPI, and why understanding them matters for your workflow.

Part 1 is live now 👇

Read the latest Conda CLI roadmap update! 👉️ https://conda.org/blog/conda-roadmap-q1-2026

Recent highlights + what we’re building next:
⚡ sharded repodata (beta) for much faster metadata fetching
🧰 a safer way to install PyPI packages in conda envs
🔒 native lockfiles support in progress
🛠 early work on representing pure-Python wheels in repodata

This is community-driven work, and your feedback really matters. If you try things and hit sharp edges, please tell us! 🤗

Lately, we’ve seen some concern and confusion among our users, so we want to clear things up. In this blog post, we’re breaking down the #conda ecosystem: the tools, the channels (like #conda-forge, #bioconda), how to get started, and how multi-stakeholder governance ensures the ecosystem remains reliable and accessible for everyone. 👉 https://conda.org/blog/2024-08-14-conda-ecosystem-explained
This was a collaborative effort from across conda ecosystem, and we hope it’s helpful for the whole community. 🤗

Conda in the Packaging Spectrum: From pip to Docker to Nix

If conda is a distribution, where does it fit alongside pip, Docker, and Nix? Part 2 of the 3-part series! 🚀

We explore conda's unique "middle path”. Why it's lighter than containers, more powerful than language-specific package managers, and uniquely portable through its clever approach to system dependencies.

https://Anaconda.org and conda adopt sharded repodata! 🎉

Sharded repodata splits large repodata files into per-project shards so clients fetch only what they need, bringing significant speedups and lower bandwidth use.

Shards that have been available on https://prefix.dev channels are now also served on https://Anaconda.org for conda-forge. Conda users can opt in to see these gains, while Pixi and rattler-build users benefit automatically!
