Things are probably still propagating over to the new server, but I am officially hosting my blog locally via #OpenBSD on my HP T630
Wrote about setting up the process here:
"Setup a Simple, Self-Hosted Web Server with OpenBSD"
https://btxx.org/posts/self-hosted-openbsd/
(I also have some basic details on my infrastructure page https://btxx.org/infra/)
Still a WIP, but I’m trying to consolidate all my basic OpenBSD guides into one place:
Right now it just covers basic desktop and rehashing my router setup. Plan to add more use cases as I tinker with things myself 😛
I've ported over a few small side project websites to my local Raspberry Pi Zero (named Hermes)
My main blog *might* be placed on my HP Thin Client running OpenBSD instead...we shall see!
All of my main website subdomain projects have been moved over to my #RaspberryPi Zero (named Hermes). If things continue to work well, I plan to port my main blog over as well!
Then I will begin porting over my clubs/custom domain projects to my *other* Raspberry Pi 3B... (named Apollo, obviously 😛 )
Finally got around to finishing this post:
"Serving a Website on a Raspberry Pi Zero Running Entirely in RAM"
As much as I enjoy Firefox, I don't think Mozilla will be keeping Thundermail around for very long. The fact that their beta testers are required to pay $6/month is already pretty rough. Also seems to be hosted on AWS which makes calling it "privacy-first" a little bit of a stretch...
I think after the initial launch, this will be another product Mozilla kills off. (As sad as that might be)
With so many posts popping up about “leaving GitHub” or discussing how poor the experience overall is with that platform, I will share my old post again on moving over to SourceHut :)
“Git Your Freedom Back: A Beginner’s Guide to SourceHut”
We were without power for ~18 hours yesterday, but I’m still determined to eventually switch hosting my personal blog over to my local Raspberry Pi Zero
Testing out a fun experiment of running a variation of my existing website locally.
What's cool about it?
- Served off a Raspberry Pi Zero 1.3
- Running entirely in RAM (thanks Alpine!)
- Web server -> darkhttpd
- Has a tiny ~$4/year VPS in front of it handling the TLS termination
I'm sure things will explode if too many visitors slammed the poor little Pi, but I think regular traffic would be completely fine ;)

PS. sorry if it falls over!
It's currently just a simplified version of my existing blog, but I'm hosting this website on my Raspberry Pi Zero for testing purposes:
We will see how things go over time, then possible port over the "real" thing 😛
Just as I’ve been slowly migrating my web projects to locally self hosted, my ISP goes down for ~2 hours 🙄
I guess nothing I host is critical or required to have 99.99% uptime. But still!
It's been roughly a week or so since testing out #Ubuntu on my #thinkpad T480s. I'm genuinely impressed how painless everything has been (connecting displays, driver support, wifi etc).
I know Ubuntu is picked on quite a bit, but I think it is one of the best free/open "starter" operating systems to introduce to newbies.
Planning to switch over the default "page size" checker on 512KB & 1MB clubs to use DebugBear. I should have moved away from Cloudflare's scanner ages ago, but lack of support for the Pale Moon browser is the last straw...
New post on 1MB Club (just a small overview of the project's lifetime)
"Four More Years and Over 800 Websites Later"
I’ve been playing around with a Rock Pi 4 Plus. Went with the default minimal Debian image, since fighting with U-boot wasn’t something I wanted to tackle yet 😛
Running Caddy on it and hosting https://caddy.ninja for testing purposes.
Seems that SourceHut is getting slammed with another DDoS attack (on their meta system). This is why we can’t have nice things 🙄
