In May 2021 Octobox.io donated $10k to its dependecies because 'We need to fund projects based on what we use rather than what we see'.
Today Microsoft has started doing the same: https://opensource.microsoft.com/blog/2024/06/27/5-things-we-learned-from-sponsoring-a-sampling-of-our-open-source-dependencies/
All powered by the years of work we've done at @ecosystems@mastodon.social
Nearly 8 years ago we released Octobox.io to help maintainers struggling under the weight of their notifications. It's still ticking along, helping 11.3k users manage 25m notifications...
I joined GitHub to improve their own notifications tools, which I did — to a degree. When I left to join Open Collective I handed over a plan for the future, which I still hope to see one day. Until then Octobox.io is still there to help you untangle your GitHub notifications.

Never forget.
Used desk view for the first time at work today. *Significantly* cheaper than an iPad. I don’t anticipate it staying in Apple’s macOS for long on that basis alone…
When the iPhone was first released it was released with a 300 page guidebook on how to build for it. What gestures worked and how they found people actually use things.
Android didn’t have the equivalent till version 6. It explains a lot why Android UI was a shit show for so long, and it still lags behind.
made myself a prototype Apple Player One while in standup...
serious question: who can I pay _today_ to do a high resolution face and/or full body scan for future a/vr?
Ed Balls.
