It does matter, though. That dipshit segment is lost. But there’s a big chunk of people who swing side to side. Tons of people are constantly telling them “both sides bad” (including quite a lot of .ml users on this platform). It’s not true. But if we start saying it’s fine to lie and manipulate images like this, then it becomes a little more true.

I do see the harm. “Everything that looks bad is fake” is not very far from what this guy has said before, and more fake stuff circulating makes it easier for his 30% to believe him.

What is the benefit of including the reply in this screenshot?

My recommendation was always the Affinity suite. One-time reasonable purchase and it was great. Definitely not the engineer-designed UI this post complains about. One problem: Mac only. But now, it’s free! And available for PC! Except it was acquired by the Canva people so they’re probably gonna fill it with subscriptions and slop soon. Bummer.

I drive a 2019 Fiat 500e as my daily getting-around-town car. A little more than “barely even a car” but it gets about 80 miles on an overnight charge from a normal 110V outlet. I would love a small sedan that’s got 200+ miles of range, fast charging, and isn’t made by a company run by a fascist. Nobody seems to want to make them at any price.

It is a mountain moving effort, though. Humans are deeply social creatures. Every thing that surrounds this guy has incentivized him to believe and behave in a way that keeps him part of the tribe. It’s safe to stay in line. We do not know that he had no issue with the terrible things that happened. But we do know that the whole of American conservatism is set up to squash those doubts as soon as they come up. To keep everyone in line or face being ostracized. He has not done enough, yet. But there is a huge difference between telling someone “yes, good, you’re starting to get it” and “fuck you, dude, you’re irredeemable.” There is certainly a core of shitheads that is irredeemable. But most people caught up in this think they’re doing the right thing. Obviously they’re not doing the right thing. But they want to. Imposing day one ideological purity tests does not make it easier for them to change their minds about what the right thing is.

Did you expect him to announce his party switch in the same announcement? Like, he’s taken the biggest stand of any republican politician so far. Yes, that isn’t good enough yet. But when people do something that’s in the right direction and you respond with “FUCK YOU” do you think that helps convince more people to do the same?

Net positives mean something, though. We want a 10/10 solution, but saying an achievable 6/10 is the same as no change at all is exactly what the people who oppose us want us to think. That if we can’t get rid of every car on the road, we might as well have done nothing. That’s terrible! Of course we can make things incrementally better! We all want cars to generally go away from what should be walkable areas. Replace them with public transit and bikes and just walking. That kind of culture shift is going to take generations. Less smog and carbon dioxide being spewed into the air is a good thing. (Provided the trend towards solar and wind power continues.)

There is nothing as hilarious as someone trying to use fancy words but missing pretty basic concepts of the language. You’re trying to sound smart. It’s making you sound dumber.

You should try yelling “money” again, that’ll definitely convince people. Of. Well, whatever it is you’re trying to convince us of.

People have been begging for big tech companies that rely on open source software to support development. Netflix finally did the dang thing. More, please!

Real programmers: writing code is easy, specifying code and finding bugs are difficult AI bros: why don’t we make it really difficult to explain what you want to the plagiarism robot and then have its output be unmaintainable, but it’ll write the code for you!

My plan, if I’m ever forced to use it for work or whatever, is to have a Claude.md file that says stuff like

  • you are not my friend
  • you are not a person
  • you aren’t even a “you”
  • you are a weighted random number generator built with plagiarism
  • do not ever, EVER, pretend otherwise

The only potentially generous way to interpret that statement is if “here” is like downtown in a major city or near a college campus or something. But do you know who deserves the benefit of the doubt? Not this little fucker, not one bit.

I think it’s possible to accept that, while a city without cars obviously preferable, the electrification of vehicles is still a net positive given the enormous inertia of car culture.

Show me a consistent framework of justice where it was okay for John Adams to represent the guys who did the Boston Massacre but that guy (who is a shitbag who murdered someone) shouldn’t be represented. I agree, he’s a murderer and should be prosecuted to the greatest extent of the law. But representation is part of that law. How are so many people in this thread saying “yes, Trump bad” but also “I want to do exactly what Trump does but to other people instead”

Half the country thinks he was actively defending himself from an active shooter. They’re wrong, obviously. But to suggest that social pressure should make him unrepresentable is ridiculous.

People in this thread if that happened: “Oh, he says he doesn’t like it, but he’s still running for governor as part of the republican party. He just wants his power and as part of the GOP he’ll always be compromised.” Do you want a better world? Let people become better people instead of crushing their bones.

Just… four quotes deep with zero added information every time. Is this what people enjoy? Someone reporting something, and then three influencers quote-posting saying “this.” or the equivalent? What garbage.
