Coming from a convicted rapist “fair shake” is very likely being given essays, a slap on the wrist, and no chance of formal convictions.

I have a set of the books from the time of release. Strangely, I’ve never read the last one. If you’re curious regarding the details, ContraPoints has a long form vid on the issue.

The most attention I’ve ever given this guy is when I watched Game of Thrones and the person I was watching with says, matter of factly, that’s Ed Sheeran. Me: I’ve heard the name, but who is he and why should I care? Followed by some pull up of a video with music so remarkable, I remember it not at all. Then there’s social media. Where you find out about a person not because you care but because a stream of posts starts flowing through your scroll. So you tap in and read about some guy you care about not at all.

Explain to me how this doesn’t encourage a United bombing run on both Israel and the states. They’re starving working class plebs like you and me right now. Something about the internal class war in the states makes me livid about that wherever it’s happening. Viscerally. A handful of guys decide to shit on one another and the rest of us are supposed to bathe in the excremental splatter and like it. Why FFS? These same assholes are supposed to be in power for the express purpose of shielding their people from said shit.

Stating the obvious. META was a major lobbyist for all of the state bills we’ve seen so far. There’s probably more. Or META is taking the lead because most hate them already, which provides a nice distraction from anyone else involved. Tech and data centers want our data. What better way for a complete data set is there? I’m sure Palantir is in there somewhere.

Keyboard and mouse setup with old school DnD. The games that move your entire party with a single mouse click on the map. Baldurs Gate 1 & 2, Planescape Torment, Neverwinter Nights campaigns 1-3, Neverwinter Nights 2, 1 & 2. MotB is artfully made. And you get to heroic and levels. Iirc Dragon Age Origins has a similar setup, BioWare breaks from the format in later editions. There’s always 4x. Endless Legend is neat. Stellaris. Civ for classsic content.

States. You can find marbles new. But I’d added some to watch lists on a few auctions now, thinking I’d scoop some up on the cheap instead of buying new. I was so wrong, and it’s a pattern of high spending by bidders.

Alright. Your mom is definitely more over the edge than my mom. Mine has talked about it as a way of being with loved ones again after she dies. Death is scary. Mom is pretty old. As such, I don’t see the problem here. Peaceful death as a goal, in my mind, isn’t a bad thing. Her conception per how she talks about it includes her though, not the world. What you describe, however, pushes it onto other people. The necessary boundary against religious twisting is lacking. Again, this is a conversation you need to have together.

Exactly. I can find them. But these estate auction bidders are spending so much. The last bid I looked at was $38 already and that’s not accounting for sales tax or the 18% tacked on for the auction house. It’s bizarre.

I don’t lie, I’ve never been good at it, but I don’t elaborate. If I’m asked something I don’t want to answer I say I’m not discussing that here. There’s a 98% respected rule to not discuss politics. Management states they’d prefer we don’t because it upsets the clientele and it’s irrelevant to the workplace. However, every couple years there’s that one person who cannot read the room and loudly talks politics to the quiet people around her she thinks are listening but who are instead cringing as they wait for her to stop talking.

To be fair, Star Trek is pushing the idea of utopian society. Prime directive. Evolved past money. Spending time people and resources on exploration. To seek out new life, not to exploit or destroy it. Tech in those hands is going to be far different than the same tech in our society’s hands.

It’s probably a piece of why Duchovny was so keen on doing the Xfiles again. Meanwhile, Anderson is beyond classy on screen. Whether it’s being batshit in Dickens, the hunter Stella Gibson, or Thatcher, she’s pretty great. She doest need the x-files.

As someone who reads scifi like a chain smoker in a tobacco warehouse, this reads as somewhat antiquated. Niven and Heinlein and such back in the day, definitely in the American camp on how they wrote women and relationships, not seeing much of that lately though. Heavy lean on military scifi instead. Most of it narrated by RC Bray. Silo series was American. Though that felt like the smart man’s Fallout as a writing prompt. Chuck Wendig, American. Maybe we all just have apocalypse on the brain the last decade. Not sure the space romance thing is limited to one country’s culture. God save us all from young adult fiction of any kind, because this is the main plot. The real issue in scifi rn is the multiverse popping up like the vampire trend back in the Sookie Stackhouse days. Every other description of newly “printed” scifi I’ve read in my book searches this year: multiverse. Is everyone just out of ideas? I liked it better when it felt like the scifi market was trying to find the next expanse.

Its oligarch logic. Democracy is foul and needs to die because democracy means Bezos has one vote, the same as any barista or construction worker, which is utterly ridiculous. He should be in charge, of course. So stop defying him. It’s why they buy legislators and city council members. And presidents.

It’s a little difficult now because the public ethos has changed from “that’s crazy” to “well, probably, sure, why not?” in regards to possible alien life. Even so, the entertainment value of the scifi and the dynamic duo remains. What’s awful is revisiting Duchovny trying to act. He’s like John Wayne who only plays John Wayne. When Duchovny tries to diverge from playing Duchovny, it’s quite cringe. The past life episode was the worst.
