@vowe Now imagine being in the same time zone, and you find out what it's like to be Canadian.

@AnnieBuddy@mstdn.ca Pretty sure that gets filed under "sovereign immunity." Wouldn't want any actual accountability.

@AmeliasBrain@mstdn.ca Yes. Basically "kids only live in houses with backyards, therefore anything that doesn't have a backyard can't support the school."

The best part is that this came from a community league chair who had been a city councillor 30ish years ago. Who also said something to the effect of "we knew approving all that sprawl was going to leave a big budget problem for a future council to solve, but you need to solve it more gradually."

@ECityMom@mstdn.ca I'm feeling misquoted here. I don't think these things are the future. I understand that educators believe they need to teach these tools because they're being told that they're the future.

@chad I'm glad to hear yesterday bought us a bit of a lifetime, but I'd love to see the situation become less tenuous.
At one point you were working on setting up an NPO. Has anything come of that? It seems like having a board might give some more space for you to pass on the stuff you're less comfortable with, like running fundraising campaigns.

Great budget analysis, both on past and current governments, and grading against their own supposed plans and fiscal rules.
It also makes me further question government priorities, as it seems that our real spending per person has really not budged since 2008 (under Ed Stelmach), yet services have deteriorated significantly.

@AmeliasBrain @linux_mclinuxface I think it's just that there isn't a noticeable quality gap for the extra money. L'OCA and Freson Brothers are comparably expensive, opened around the same time about 10 blocks apart, in an area with lots of people who aren't terribly price-sensitive. One of them is always busy.

@dcdeejay@mastodon.online @dirtyoldtown@mefi.social Care yes, Free no. Even as a Canadian, I'd be charged for the ambulance. They are public and do provide services to people who can't pay, but will charge anyone who can.

@dcdeejay@mastodon.online @dirtyoldtown@mefi.social I dunno...I first found out that ambulances cost money when I was 14 and was out on my bike by myself.
It's not a question of what I'm in favour of, it's the way things are. They're going to be looking for someone to bill.

@h5e@tech.lgbt Definitely.
I usually want to paste text without formatting.
Sometimes I want to paste formatting without text.
I can't think of any situation where I've wanted to do both.
