GOP lawmakers quietly slash funds for Dolly Parton children's book charity
Republicans this year quietly cut millions of dollars of funding for the late and beloved Dolly Parton’s children’s book charity, according to multiple reports. Imagination Library, the nonprofit founded by Parton that sends free books to children across the world, faces an uncertain future in Indiana and Missouri as Republican lawmakers limit public funding, Newsweekreported Wednesday.

Cats don’t like their tails touching anything when they go. So if you have an enclosed litterbox where the only way cat doesn’t feel like their ass is confined and touching stuff, they’ll stick it out the door. So you can try taking the lid off, or try taping a washcloth over the opening blocking 1/2 of the top so that the cat butt will touch that in hopes that this is more disagreeable than just being all the way in the box.

Fuck these clowns. Their “compromise” is finding some way to quiet the bad press while continuing to do what they’ve been doing.

20 years ago was 2006.
I do not recall any tech resistance by the masses. In fact a couple years later there were people camping out overnight waiting for the release of the latest gadgets like the iphone.
Ffw to today…those same masses dgaf about their lives being tracked and monetized today; in fact, many are active and willing sycophants pushing being social media personalities as careers while using that personality to shit on higher education and intelligence.
I do agree that the limited tech community capable of independent thought and action are against the surveillance corporate state we’re headed into, but the rest are doing their best to hurry and profit off it while the dumpster fire flames get closer and closer to them.

You’re not really a “cyclist” if a motor is doing a bunch of the work. That’s the equivalent of those mopeds we had in the ‘70s that you could pedal, too. Probably went 35-40 mph. Nobody in their right mind would call them bicycles or call the riders cyclists. It’s a motorized bike.

AI/LLMs are the modern equivalent of the house or business with “Psychic” and “Tarot Reading” signs out front.
The proprietor isn’t going to tell you any hard truths or make you feel bad, that’s bad for business and you won’t come back. They want you to come back and stay engaged.
Whatever they tell you is going to be what they think you want to hear based on skills picked up over the years - the equivalent of LLMs petabytes of scraped and stolen knowledge used to predict what comes next.
What they tell you has a high likelihood of being wrong, or just general enough that you can’t actually act on it.

The same people that say the economy is shit because life’s hard and they can’t get ahead are the same ones that point out that the president says the economy is doing great whenever someone criticizes him.

Damn right, Bernie. I was a blue-no-matter-who because they actually make some policy sense, but now it’s only because the Right is absolutely insane. If a Progressive or Social Democrat actually had any traction I’d vote for them over the straight (D) instantly.

I think they made a fair choice.

I was not able to find a source I find reliable, but there are many sites that suggest elephants recognize individual humans and recognize guns as threats, and can even recognize a gun pointed at them is a threat. So if someone they don’t know has a gun, and we’ll never know if he aimed one at an elephant for funsies, they may have identified him as a threat and defended themselves by killing him.

Ok;
This is the observable universe.
Not the entire universe, which we have no idea how large it is.
So the observable universe has 10^80 atoms or so. The number of possible moves in all possible chess games is supposed to be around 10^120. That number is called the “Shannon Number.”
According to this site.

Fake. A report would list the violations, the code reference, and have a lot of extra text describing the municipalities rules regarding said violations and a list of consequences for failing to correct said violations.
It would certainly not list a price because the inspector doesn’t set repair costs or estimate them, and these were fines they aren’t “estimated,” much less printed out on a sheet like this. Even if it were remotely real, why would the tenant ever get a copy? The notice of violation goes to the landlord.

They don’t wanna kill art. They want to place themselves between you and everything. While it’s free now, when they get done destroying all the books and shutting down all the independent websites, you’ll pay.
Just like the streaming services shut down physical copies of games, music stores and video rentals.
You’ll pay.

Same list of links?
Since when?
It used to give you what it thought was the most relevant based on the terms placed in the search field. It was excellent.
Now it gives you: AI, youtube, sponsored links, ad links, shopping links, SEO garbage, social media links, and out of all of these there’s a good chunk that have only tangential relevance to your search at best, and then MAYBE you might get a link to a site that presents the information you seek.
Sometimes google search returns nothing at all.
Same list of garbage.

Reminds me of this:
An ex-convict gave horrific insight into serving in the Russian army, saying his officers refused to collect the dead bodies of soldiers from the battlefield so that the Russian military wouldn’t have to pay their families, according to The New York Times.
In an interview, the soldier who served in one of the Russian Ministry of Defense’s convict units — who was identified as “Aleksandr” — told the Times he was ordered not to collect the bodies of his fellow troops.
He told the Times that officers could register the men as “missing in action,” meaning their families couldn’t collect compensation for them being killed in battle.
One shitty dictator starting a completely unwarranted war doing the same thing as another shitty dictator running a completely unwarranted war.

It’s also “don’t rock the boat.” Because if society decides that rich people don’t get to be filthy rich, the rich peoppe will take it out on the peasants so they can stay as rich as possible. IOW if we don’t leave the rich people alone they’ll be mean to us and take even more.
