Somehow veteran isn’t the right word. Veteran kind of implies you have learned along the way, yet I keep making the same mistakes Homelab Veteran ⚡ Fleet: 2–3 devices · 5–10 TB Motivation: Privacy & data ownership, Independence from Big Tech & subscriptions, Cost savings My MVPs: Immich, Jellyfin, Radarr, Sonarr

I don't have adhd, but I want you gouge my eyes out when somebody tells me something long, i miss the last couple words, ask you repeat just the last 3 words and they start. All. Over. Again.

It gives you 6 years to transition to a better OS. Or to become CEO of Microslop and improve things. It's honestly great, even for me who only boot into windows once every few months.

Let me adjust my tinfoil hat. This proof has existed before Trump, and nobody was accountable. High level Democrats are either implicated or paid to look away. It's now a nuclear mutual destruction weapon. Everybody has to threaten the others with it, but nobody can use it. Trump shows a bit, Democrats threaten with asking for the rest. Nobody will do the final push. During that time, ICE is killing and kidnapping people, journalists have been detained, military action in foreign countries, threats against peaceful allies, blatant corruption, unjust laws.... And we all say "yeah, that's a distraction on the Epstein files". No, the files are the distraction. Nobody in power well let us ever see the full picture. We see what they want us to see plus a few fuckups. The main guy was killed, whoever speaks goes next. Meanwhile they have blackmail for the richest people in the world. They are running rampant and we are being distracted by something we will never get. I have no idea what we can do, but this is beyond fucked up. We can't ignore them, but we can't let them distract from everything else.

I'm going to assume you're on the younger side. That's a relatively recent thing. For many many years we had to install PDF printers. Also the PDF printer is generic, but the export has to implemented for each application individually.

Not specifically about systemd, but some things can't be backwards compatible because they might want to just do things different. Nobody was forced to change, the distros saw the options and decided in favor of systemd, the same they decide a million other things.

Couple of years back I got a PR at work that used a block of code that read a CSV, used some stream method to covert it to binary to then feed it to pandas to make a dataframe. I don't remember the exact steps it did, but was just crazy when pd.read_csv existed. On a hunch I pasted the code in google and found an exact match on overflow for a very weird use case on very early pandas. I'm lucky and if people send obvious shit at work I can just cc their manager, but I fell for the volunteers at large FOSS projects, or even paid employees.

Great in the sense I don't have to bother for 6 years for a partition I will use less than 24 hours over that period of time haha. So far I've used it to scan once (for some reason that day skan decided to not work) and to make a windows install USB for my SO. I tried Expedition 33 thinking performance issues were a Linux thing by no, it's just like that. So it's a long term unlikely to be used OS, and for that long support is great.

The age comment is not about the age of the posts, but about how you seem so surprised about printing as PDF rather than export as PDF. Using a virtual printer was the norm until relatively recently, and even then it's still the most effective because anything than can print can use that to generate a PDF. That's how I still create PDFs honestly. Didn't want you offend, sorry if came out wrong

Last time I used Raapbian there was a GUI for updates, and I think it would show a notification periodically for updates. This is mostly a difference of not knowing really. I have a Mac at work and it seems incredibly hard to do easy things, but mostly because I'm not used to it nor I bother to learn.

Actually, one more use case is my SO. Can't/won't use Linux, and I'm not fighting. But needs an up to date OS on the ancient lappet laptop, so 10 IOT it is.

I could stretch my legs for a few min, but that’s only on long trips. Also ignores the main issue, what happens when there’s many cars and not enough chargers? It’s not inconclusive to wait for one or two people behind you for gas, that can mean 90 min total stop for EV. Ignoring that the line will be longer if more people need to charge and range is lower. I want an ev for my next car, but I’m scared of that

It’s a compromise if I’m not paying for it. Still I hate that the basic, like copy, search… Use a different key. I can rebind them, but it’s at each keyboard config and makes it annoying when trying to learn new ones

As a patent of a small child, without some benefits in the form of flexibility in hours (not in output) either I or my partner wouldn’t be able to work without external help. Those who can’t afford the help sometimes have to “work for free” because some hours they work just go to somebody to be with their children. The shitty part is that (anecdotically based on my experience) those who complaint about any benefit for patents are the same who consider selfish to not have children.
