He/him

Just a lad trying to build a life and a community of friends in Canada while trying to figure out who I am. Dabbles with the internet sometimes. Working towards a career around urban design and planning, enjoys casual photography, and want to learn about everything. Trying to pursue my artistic side more. I stay semi-anonymous on the public web.

Profile photo is a street in Amsterdam during the Festival of Light, banner is a February sunrise over the Canadian prairies.

@Techaltar@mas.to I think that AI is an incredibly cool technology but the current approach of just using general purpose massive LLMs to answer to prompts and hoping it'll consistently do useful work on its own is a dead end. Specialized models trained to utilize custom logic/plugin scripts (for actual precision and consistency) and relevant inputs set up by people who know what they're doing seems like the most powerful use case to me. Is there something I'm blind to/missing?

Been seeing some privately run 'ambulances' on the roads lately, as part of my provincial government's plan to supplement/erode public healthcare with private contracts/handouts. Forgive me for treating these overpriced, worker-underpaying services as a joke, but I passed one this morning that had the knockoff 'ambulance' decal applied backwards. Oops.

The highlight of my morning is always taking a brisk sunrise walk to my BRT line then skipping past all of the cars that are stuck in traffic.

@shadowdancer @Techaltar "Headquarters" is referring to Fairphone's company headquarters in Amsterdam (for product and software development, support, management, etc) As for the FP6, it's been doing pretty well for me software-wise, and I'm in Canada so had to deal with the momentary issues with lack of North American support at the beginning but things are smooth and fixed now. Occasional hiccups but nothing disruptive

@alipunk Unfortunately I don't work there, just a student (if I dox myself on Mastodon, it may as well be to help someone out). But the contact information for the faculty is available online and they're growing incredibly quickly, and I think your skillset would be very much appreciated there. They've picked up a lot of talent recently but not as much in interior design that I'm aware of, despite its importance. Might be worth an email inquiry :)

@alipunk I'm nowhere near a position where I could be involved in hiring, but the University of Calgary's School of Architecture, Planning & Landscape (SAPL) is often looking for people with that skillset to help design students in studio classes. Depending on how much experience you have I'd consider seeing if there's anything for you, they sometimes have (paid & recurring) remote or hybrid guest lecturers & speakers esp. with both technical & problem solving skills, they love that

@KazuShuSora@social.tchncs.de @TheEddieShow@beige.party the onboarding kept me away for months. Having a regular "sign up" button at a Mastodon domain leading to an all in one way instance browser followed by simple signup and go would be great. We're pretty close there. ALSO! Manual signup approvals are fine, but disclosed front and centre alongside a blurb with average approval time. It took *weeks* for me to get approved, I thought it was broken. Almost missed the welcome email a month later and gave up.

I wonder if I'll ever be able to move past regretting that time a few years ago when I was so used to selling my soul to keep the people I loved close, that I forgot to stop for the one who loved me for my soul.
