@alan@lighthouse.co.im @jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net As these IPs are largely from people’s personal connections (for instance because they have a malware infected Smart TV or router, or run some kind of smart TV/free game/browser extension with this dubious code deliberately inserted in it) you would effectively be blocking entire consumer ISPs. If you run a regular website you want people using regular consumer ISPs to reach it. That makes the use of these proxies so effective.

@Edent@mastodon.social It’s not for me but I can see this work out really well in a Pixelfed account to share where a photo was taken. I envisage maps with dots and then you can click a dot to see how dozens of people have photographed the same thing in dozens of different ways.

There is a problem if you measure the value of A in unit B when neither A or B are stable, you could be misinterpreting a movement. It’s the same mechanism behind the argument that the S&P500 barely increased over the last decade, rather the value of the US Dollar has declined. It’s mad to choose a unstable value as Bitcoin to measure house prices with, but a basket of currencies might show a very different picture than we usually see.

@timbray@cosocial.ca I suspect LLMs can find a useful long term place in software development. It should be used in the right place, though. Humans are good at writing code, not good at reading code, or finding bugs. For software quality to remain high the ideal combo would be for humans to write code and for LLMs to look over their shoulder, suggest draft docs, interpret other people’s code, find bugs. Not the other way around. I’m highly doubtful this is economically feasible, though. Too expensive.

@dansup@mastodon.social I have no experience with launching on platforms outside of Apple and Google but is there not a risk that Google can decide to stall release on their store “because reasons” if they see you launching on the alternatives first?
