We're on-site at the #NebulaAwards today!

Drop by our table if you happen to be in attendance.

Since it's Pride Month, we want to hear about your favourite LGBTQIA+ SFF works.

What books did you love that celebrated queer joy, promoted gay rights, engaged with gender diversity, and said that it is okay to be who you are?

Happy Pride Month from everyone here at LAcon V, the 84th World Science Fiction Convention!

Worldcon has an interesting and mixed history of LGBTQIA+ representation, though the SFF community and the LGBTQIA+ community had things in common from the start. As Natalie Haddad wrote "within these subcultures, costumes allowed people to be themselves at a time when freedom of expression was policed by both social norms and the law."

At #LAconV, we want everyone to feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for. Our Safer Spaces/Affinity Spaces are here to give you a place to rest, connect, and be yourself during the convention. If you need a break or a place to connect with others who share your experiences this is for you!

We will also be offering The Oasis - a calm, welcoming place where you can rest and recharge at your own pace. There you’ll find simple activities like coloring, short readings, and self-care supplies.

Volunteers are an essential part of #LAconV, and if you're thinking about joining our team, now is the time to send us an email! Volunteer positions in various departments are still open for the convention weekend. More info, and apply here: https://www.lacon.org/volunteer

Happy 73rd Birthday to #LAconV Guest of Honor, Stan Sakai! 🎉

For more than four decades, Stan has enthralled comic book fans with tales of anthropomorphic rabbit samurai in his classic series Usagi Yojimbo.

We’ll be revealing the finalists for the 2026 Hugo Awards right here in just one hour!

If you want to vote on the Hugo Awards this year, information about registration is available at https://lacon.org/register.

Game players and Game Masters alike, #LAconV wants to hear from you!

Although Weird Al Yankovic grew up just a 30-minute drive from our convention location, he recorded his first hit north of Los Angeles in a public restroom at the Cal Poly campus. The men's room features a commemorative plaque to honor this iconic recording session.

Worth a road trip pilgrimage? Possibly!

LAcon V is excited to announce that we are providing sponsorship for Iridescence, this year's Eastercon! Eastercon is the UK’s annual national convention for science fiction and fantasy, bringing together fans, creators, and industry professionals for a long weekend of ideas, stories, and community.

In cooperation with Disney Destinations, we are able to provide our attending members with special discounts for the Disneyland Resort while you're out in Anaheim for LAcon V.

These discounted tickets are valid from Sunday, August 23 through Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Home to the remains of more than 2 million ice age flora and fauna, the La Brea Tar Pits are a sight very rarely seen in the modern world.

With the new improvements to the site, we highly suggest you put this on your "must-visit" list when you're in the area for #LAconV.
