Unless you’re in a high demand, low worker base trade like linemen, pipefitters, riggers, ect, and have a good union contract with lots of availability for OT. I have friends building warships in Bath for like $45/hr with 50hrs guaranteed a week, but the extra 10 are optional, so there usually more like 60 available because shlubs are cool to go home at 40, which I don’t disrespect, but man leaving that time and a half on the table is wild. If the general workplace social environment weren’t SO TOXIC I’d be working there too, but I have thin skin and really don’t like shop love until I feel part of the InGroup, which is the very toxicity I dislike. Oh the trades.

A fellow man of culture.
Wanna see the whole scene? Bing both actresses names and turn on adblock, maybe double wrap that adblock.

Volunteer firefighters are paid pretty damn well while 20 of them stand around a car wreck at 2am.

It wouldn't be a reference to the film then. I don't think it's meant to be disparaging.

Doesn’t it also kind of imply the original complaining user is hypocritically using reddit themselves? How else would they know? And secondly, why do they care so much, because they had to see meme twice? Reddit was full of reposts and lemmy to an extent is too if you overlap subs to similar communities on different instances.
Idk I just don’t get the whole thing. Aren’t a lot of us here as an alternative to reddit anyway?

I used to live in the Deer Valley housing beneath the dam. They don't tell you it's directly over a fault line

You're GenX and have never had a pizza or Chinese food delivered!? Do you live in the sticks? Town I live in now has never had a delivery restaurant (weird for a tourist town) and nobody runs Uber eats or whatever, but when I was a kid in suburbia delivery food was super common, mostly pizza and Chinese.

Volunteer firefighters are not unpaid, that not what volunteer means in this context. They are not full time, professional firefighters, they have normal jobs and when a call goes out, whoever can make it drops what they're doing and goes in. But they absolutely get paid, very well, for their time, from the tax payers dollar. Or by directly suing for restitution as with my car accident. $1700 for a gaggle of looky lous

None of that shit except maybe the AI goes away in a woodshop. Hell, owners probably love AI because now they don’t need to pay a designer and drawer.

Unlike all of the other heating sources we have! Damn EPA making sure new stoves are 95% efficient and not holding oil burners to such a high standard!

It’s called Machine Learning. AI is synonymous with LLM crap now.

A drawer and a drawer are two different things, there’s a word for words like that. You can say Technical Drawer to draw distinction I suppose, or maybe Drafter is more correct but that feels architectural to me. Funny enough Drawers have slides, and so do drawers. I need to take my meds

Then you have to say Machine Learning out front or everyone is going to assume you mean an LLM

I guess I have never seen a paying job as “below me”. Some jobs aren’t worth the pay, but that’s different imo. Cleaning up sewer overflow after a storm for $20/hr in 2010 wasn’t enough, but $40 sure was.

They have pilots? Like, I could get paid for driving an FPV RC car all night instead of not getting paid for that like I do now!? I figured they were autonomous.

Sorry to bag on the dream dude. I highly recommend getting yourself a lathe and a drill press at harbor freight and going town. Both are relatively safe tools (no loose hair/clothing) with no blades, easy to learn, and the range of stuff you can make with those two alone is large. It’s a wonderful hobby, it’s a pretty terrible job. I may still be recovering from the trauma a decade later because I have not built a personal piece since I was fired.

Woah, this maybe a good way of contributing what seems to be a skill I have. Not trying to brag but as a 33 year old skidmark on the national economy, I am currently batting 1000 on job interviews over my life. I have multiple times just quit a job on the spot and had a new one before weeks end. I’m not sure why, or how, but I have never been interviewed and not offered the job. Mind, none of them have required “skills” or “education” beyond what I’ve picked up along the way, they could be called entry level jobs but I’ve never really seen a path upward in any of the companies, doesn’t seem to work like that anymore. Just jobs, ~$40k a year usually with benefits. I have always had a hard time understanding why people who “can’t find work” don’t just take a job that’s available while they look for the perfect one. Spoiler, I have never found a perfect job, aside from working for myself.

There are a lot of us that are fiercely on Jane’s side. It’s disgusting and honestly pretty scary even as a guy. Sorry to butt in just wanted to reinforce the sentiment.

Who still has clocks they need to change and don’t have a reason for liking that specific clock? If you like analog clocks I doubt you care about setting it. If you don’t, what clock do you still own that needs resetting? I drive old cars so that’s one I guess, and the stove. That’s it
