The first days have been exceptionally sunny and the bike park was super-busy. Plenty of requests for sun cream, sun hats and water at the Healthy Ireland and Irish Cycling Campaign gazebos - and no shortage of interest in the work of Irish Cycling Campaign and our vision for cycling countrywide!
Over the course of the festival, we welcomed more than 1,400 people who chose to travel to Bloom by bike. Cyclists were greeted with bottles of water, while the Healthy Ireland team handed out a range of merchandise. With glorious weather on Thursday and Friday, sun hats and sunscreen proved especially popular. Sandra our awesome Chairperson brought back some surprising lessons from the Urban Cycling Institute/Strategic Cities course in the Netherlands last month.
Along with two engineers from Cork, she learnt how to prevent community opposition, political pushback, and media storms from derailing projects for safer, healthier streets.

🧵Irish Cycling Campaign strongly disagrees with making hi-vis wear mandatory by law.
We call on Tipp Council to look at the evidence, have a think about the actual causes of road danger, enforce the law about cars parking on footpaths, and retract this ridiculous motion to prosecute people for walking or cycling down the road wearing their normal clothes if they so wish.
Cycling fatalities have doubled since 2021. This can't be let continue.
We joined the Active Travel group of Climate and Health Alliance (CHA) to present to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport last week.

The Irish Cycling Campaign welcomes publication of the RSA's collisions map. The multi-annual delay in publication due to purported GDPR issues has been deeply concerning.
This data is vital for planning, engineering, policing and many other decision-making processes. A 'vital tool' indeed.
We would remind authorities that areas where no VRU collisions occur are often the areas most hostile/ dangerous for walking and cycling.

Award-winning feature documentary The Song Cycle on Tour
The Song Cycle documentary is rolling out to cinemas around Ireland over the next two months. It would be great to see our Irish Cycling Campaign local members supporting this wonderful film as it travels – by bike – around the country. The tour will kick off with a screening this coming Friday May 1st at Dublin’s IFI at 6.30pm, with a cycle lap beforehand at 5:30 meeting on the Liffey quay!

We’re an apolitical organisation, but cycling has huge potential to relieve both the energy and climate crises, so we support this earth day protest outside Leinster House this Wednesday 5:30pm.
There's a GoFundMe link for anyone who would like to support the family of Johnny Santos who was killed while cycling in Dublin this week.
At #Bloom2026, as always, we were particularly delighted to see people arriving with pannier bags, baskets and bike trailers for their bikes – and on an increasing number of cargo bikes of all shapes and sizes – so that punters can bring their flowers and plants (and children!) back home by bike.
We took care of c. 1,500 bikes. Thanks to our partners in Healthy Ireland.
