Caregiving with Dementia: You Have to Get Creative 💜
Sometimes when you’re caring for someone with dementia, you have to get creative to keep their brain engaged. Music, memories, jokes, or even talking about the mysterious “guy on my job.” 😅 Dementia caregiving isn’t always sad. Sometimes there are funny moments and little flashes of personality that remind you the person you love is still in there. Welcome to our real life with dementia.
Caregiver Sacrifices No One Talks About (Even After Signing a Film Deal) #dementia
I just returned from Los Angeles after signing my movie distribution deal and travel show agreement — major career milestones. But before I unpacked a single suitcase, I went straight from the airport to see my mother in memory care. People assume that when your parent lives in a facility, you’re “free.” They think the sacrifices stop. They don’t. I would love to relocate to Los Angeles…
Caregivers Are Telling Me They Feel Resentment. It’s More Common Than You Think 🥹
One conversation I have over and over again with caregivers is this… Some of them resent their parent. Not because they don’t love them. Not because they’re bad people. But because caregiving can be exhausting. The appointments. The responsibilities. The sacrifices. The feeling that your entire life has been put on hold. That’s why finding balance is so important. You can’t pour from an…
Mama had one job! 😂
#OnThisDay The neighbors barged into Mama’s apartment looking for snacks. So I figured… perfect! I’ll let Mama hand them out. Welp… that plan lasted about 10 seconds. 🤣 Mama was about to open those chips for HERSELF! 🤦🏾♀️ That’s dementia. Sometimes the activity you planned turns into something completely different—and all you can do is laugh. Would your loved one have shared the snacks… or kept them too? Tell me in the comments! #Dementia…

The Simplest Things Become the Hardest with Dementia 💜
Sometimes the simplest things become the hardest with dementia. All I needed Mama to do was take her coat off. So I kept repeating it… because sometimes it registers and she can do it. Other times, it just doesn’t connect. She wanted to walk out of her “apartment” with the coat on, and if she left with it… I probably would have never seen it again.
Doll Therapy Doesn’t Last Forever #dementia
#OnThisDay #DollTherapy Mama used to LOVE her dolls. Now, for the most part, all five of them just sit on the windowsill. That’s dementia. Just when you find something that brings comfort, the disease changes… and so do they. As caregivers, we keep learning, adjusting, and meeting our loved ones where they are today. Have you noticed something that used to help your loved one but doesn’t anymore? Share below. We learn so much…

Trying a Brain Exercise With My Mom 😂 Dementia Caregiving Moments
I tried a little brain exercise with Mama… and yes, I pulled out a picture of Morris Chestnut. 😂 Listen… you have to get creative with this dementia journey. It’s already heavy enough… so sometimes I choose to make it a little fun, a little light, a little engaging. Because the truth is… this can be miserable if you let it.
I Almost Had Her! 🤣🤣
This may look like a prank gone wrong but it’s a memory exercise gone right! 🤣 #dementia #brainexercise #funny #prank #love from Divas and Dementia

Once an Adult, Twice a Child… Dementia Caregiving Moments 💜
Some days caregiving really does feel like raising a toddler again. They say “once an adult, twice a child,” and baby… it is so true. Getting Mama to sit still long enough for me to groom her is a whole job by itself. A few days ago I finally got her hair done and her shoes on… and just like that, she popped up and was gone.
My Mom Hit Someone?! 😳 Dementia Caregiving Reality (Funny + Real Moments)
#OnThisDay I got a phone call… Mama hit somebody. 😩 So I rushed up to the “school” like… “Ma’am, what happened TODAY???” 😅 “Who started it?” Mama, of course! 🤦🏾♀️ Once an adult… twice a child. This dementia journey will have you doing FULL parent duties. And sometimes I sit back like… “So this is why God didn’t bless me with a daughter???” 😅
Give Caregivers Grace PLEASE
Dementia caregivers are struggling, y’all. We’re doing the best we can… when we can. The videos may not be in real time. The texts may go unanswered. The laundry may pile up. We’re carrying a lot. If you know a caregiver, give them a little grace today. They probably need it more than they’ll ever say. What has caregiving taught you?

Lunch With Mama: A Good Dementia Day 💜
#OnThisDay, Mama and I went on a lunch date. Taking a loved one with dementia out sometimes requires a little courage because dementia is like a box of chocolates… you never know what you’re gonna get. A person living with dementia can be happy one minute and completely different the next. That’s just the reality of this disease. Caregivers, do you still take your loved one out on little adventures? Tell me about your favorite…

Dementia “Man On My Job” Request Gone Wrong 🤣
Somebody requested Luther Vandross for our “Man On My Job” brain exercise… and baby, it did NOT go the way I thought it would. 😅 Mama ended up cussing me out (all in good fun) and I had to announce… NO MORE REQUESTS! Dementia caregiving will keep you humble, laughing, and on your toes all at the same time. One minute it’s a brain exercise… the next minute Mama is telling me OFF.
The Song Every Caregiver Needs to Hear 💜
I wrote this song for my Mama. Not because dementia defines her… But because it doesn’t. The world may see the diagnosis. I see HER. And she’s still BEAUTIFUL! Seeing so many people say this song made them cry has touched my heart. If this song reminds you of someone you love, I hope you’ll use it in your videos or stream it on your favorite music platform. This one is for every mama. Still HER… always. #DementiaCaregiver…
Mama Got My Phone Acting Different 😂 #dementia
Every time I let Mama hold my phone… somehow it ends up with a mysterious filter on it. Even Mama had to laugh at this one. 🤣 Dementia moments keep us on our toes… and sometimes they keep us laughing too. If you’ve ever had a moment like this with a loved one, drop a ❤️ in the comments. #DivasAndDementia #DementiaCaregiver #CaregiverLife #FunnyMoments #CaregivingJourney from Divas and Dementia
Big Baller/Shot Caller Even With Dementia
Some things dementia changes… and some things it doesn’t. Mama is STILL bossy. STILL sassy. STILL calling the shots like she’s running the whole place. The disease may have changed a lot, but her personality still finds a way to shine through… and honestly, it keeps us laughing. If you’re caring for someone with dementia, what part of their personality is still hanging on? #DementiaCare #CaregiverLife #Alzheimers #DayInTheLife…

My Mom Didn’t Recognize Me on TV… 💔Funny but NOT
#OnThisDay my cousin called and said my old episode of For My Man was on… So I showed Mama. She pulled a KeKe Palmer: “I don’t know who this man is.” She looked at the screen… and didn’t recognize me. Back in the day, she used to call everybody: “My daughter is on TV!” But dementia changes things. And moments like this teach you a hard lesson about acceptance.
“Do More Activities With Her…” 🙄 The Truth About Dementia Caregiving
“Take her to do activities…” We do activities all the time… on our own. “Let her be around her peers…” She lives with her peers… and still prefers to do her own thing. Her activity? Walking. Everything else… is really ME doing it. And sometimes I have to pause and wonder about the people full of suggestions… When was the last time YOU spent real quality time… doing activities with your mom?
Dementia Is Unpredictable… What Worked 5 Minutes Ago Won’t Work Now 💔
No matter how much you try to prepare… dementia ALWAYS has other plans. What worked yesterday won’t work today. What worked 5 minutes ago… doesn’t work the next. It will humble you. Stretch you. Force you to pivot in real time. This journey will teach you patience you didn’t even know you had. And some days… all you can do is adjust, breathe, and try again.
Dementia Didn’t Take Her Sass
Somehow Mama can “miss” everything I say… but let me whisper something she wants to hear, and suddenly her hearing is PERFECT. Selective hearing and a whole lot of sass. Dementia didn’t take THAT. Do your loved ones have selective hearing too? Tell me I’m not alone. #DementiaCare #CaregiverLife #Alzheimers #SeniorCare #DivasAndDementia from Divas and Dementia

Choosing Peace Over Views: Why I Pulled Back
Sometimes protecting your peace means changing how you show up. When I first started sharing our lives online, it was fun. I got to bring Mama into MY world of storytelling, laughter, lessons, and memories. But somewhere along the way, social media changed. The fake pages, the stolen content, the constant criticism, and the endless opinions can be a lot.

The Dementia Advice I Don’t Always Agree With
I hear this advice all the time… and I don’t completely agree. Every person with dementia is different. If questions cause frustration, don’t ask them. But if they encourage conversation and keep your loved one engaged, there is absolutely value in that. Just don’t expect a correct answer. The goal isn’t a quiz—it’s connection. How does your loved one respond to questions? Share below. #Dementia #Caregiving #Alzheimers…

What You DON’T See in Dementia Caregiving… 💜
What Facebook sees… is me recording. What you don’t see… is me doing the actual work. 💜 Making sure Mama eats. Checking on her. Following up on the things that matter for her care. It’s not always easy… especially when she’s moving all around and I’m trying to get what I need done. But this is what dementia looks like.
Dementia Taught Me This the Hard Way… Let It Go 💜
I had to learn to stop being frustrated over the things I can’t control. I make sure Mama has what she needs… clothes, shoes, slippers. But keeping up with what’s on her feet? Baby… impossible. I used to stress over it. Now I don’t. I just pause and pray: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
She Said My Name… TWICE. Dementia Can’t Break This Bond 💜
During this LIVE recap, something happened that completely filled my heart… Mama said my name twice. If you’re caring for someone living with dementia, you know moments like this mean everything. The bond is still there… even when the disease tries to take so much. Caregiving is hard, but sometimes you get these beautiful little reminders that love is still very present.
Let’s Talk About It… Life & Everything In Between | Real Talk LIVE
Sometimes I go LIVE and just talk about what’s really going on. Life. Caregiving. My movie…Fortuitous. And yes… the trolls too. If you follow me, you already know I keep things transparent. This conversation covers a little bit of everything — dementia, the journey of creating my first feature film, navigating social media, dealing with opinions from strangers, and just living life in the middle of it…
“What the H€LL She Doing?!” 😳 (She Was Talking About ME!) | Dementia In Real Life
I walked in at 7PM last night and caught Mama working her shift as “Hallway Meddling Management.” We got to her apartment and she said, “What the h€ll she doing?” The “she” was ME. 🤣 Dementia is a full-time job — for them, for family, and for staff. It’s not glamorous. It’s not easy. It’s just real life. If you’re a caregiver running on fumes… this one is for you.
Cutting My Mom’s Hair with Dementia… Baby This Ain’t My Ministry 😂✂️
Last week I cut Mama’s hair. Now let me say this up front… I am NOT a hairstylist. I’ve watched my sister do it over the years, but clearly this is not my ministry. 😩 Between the squirming, the moving around, and dementia doing what dementia does… it was a whole production. But one thing about it… I had to figure it out because my girl was NOT about to be out here looking any ole kind of way!
Mama Is Not In The Mood For Father’s Day Wishes This Year 😩
Dementia is like a box of chocolates… You never know what you’re gonna get. For some families, today is filled with cookouts, cards, and phone calls. For others, dementia has changed what Father’s Day looks like. If that’s you, just know you’re not alone. Sending love to everyone navigating this day with a loved one living with dementia. Drop a 💜 if you’re thinking about or celebrating a father, grandfather,…
Waiting To Exhale Rescheduled LINK BELOW
Caregiver life has a way of reminding us who’s really in charge. Today’s Waiting To Exhale: Caregiver Edition meetup has been rescheduled to Wednesday, July 1 at 7:00 PM EST. Thank you for understanding. This community was created because life happens, and sometimes caregiving calls. I can’t wait to wind down with you. Grab your favorite drink, and let’s exhale together on Wednesday.

Caregivers: You Can’t Pour From an Empty Cup
I don’t just spend time with Mama… I’m present for it. And that makes all the difference. The truth is, when caregivers are running on empty, we’re physically there… but mentally and emotionally, we’re just trying to make it through the day. The best memories aren’t created by doing more. They’re created when you actually have the energy to enjoy the moment.

FUN FACTS: I Didn’t Decide to Put My Mom in a Facility… But I Fully Supported It #dementia
FUN FACTS: I am very transparent on LIVE. People always ask how I knew it was time to put Mama in a facility. I didn’t. I wasn’t involved in those conversations. They also ask how I chose the facility. I didn’t choose it. People watch a few clips online and start filling in the blanks with their own assumptions. But here’s the part that matters…
“Why Do You Take Her Out?” Because She’s Human. #dementia
Yesterday someone asked why I “put myself through it” by taking Mama out. Because she’s human. Dementia doesn’t mean she stops deserving fresh air, sunlight, or outings. She’s not a caged bird or an animal. She’s my mother. And studies show fresh air is actually beneficial for people living with dementia. So yes… we’re going outside. To the people questioning why I take my own mother out…
A Positive Attitude Is One of a Caregiver’s Greatest Tools #dementiacare
Caregiving is hard enough without speaking defeat over yourself every day. Positive reinforcement isn’t pretending everything is okay. It’s choosing to encourage you and your loved one anyway. The way you speak matters. How do you stay positive on the hard days? Share it in the comments. You might encourage another caregiver today. #CaregiverSupport #DementiaCaregiver #PositiveMindset…
Mama Put Me Out on LIVE! 😂 | Dementia #embarrassing
Y’all saw Mama put me out, right?! 😂 She cut the lights off and everything! One thing Mama is STILL doing—even with dementia—is embarrassing me. The LIVE comments were hollering. And y’all still ask why she doesn’t live with family. Baby… sis needs her own apartment. We just visit each other. 🤣 Dementia is hard, but every now and then it gives us a moment that makes everybody laugh.
My Transparency Isn’t for Everybody 🤷🏾♀️ READ THE CAPTION
The Truth Makes Some People Uncomfortable. I’ve never been interested in pretending this caregiving journey is easy. I believe in telling the truth—the good days, the hard days, the funny moments, and everything in between. It’s the only way I know how to show up… An unapologetic open book. If you’re looking for a safe space where caregivers can have honest conversations without judgment, join me tomorrow, June…
Still HERE/Please hold all RIP messages! 🥹
I’ve been receiving a lot of RIP messages. Just to clear up any confusion… Mama is STILL HERE. STILL ALIVE. She is living with dementia, but she has not passed away. Dementia Has It’s Own Plans
Quality time is my priority. 💜 I’ve learned that quality time isn’t always measured by how long we sit at a table. Sometimes it’s simply walking beside her, meeting her where she is, and being grateful for whatever moments the disease allows. If you’re caring for someone with dementia, remember: it’s okay when the day doesn’t go as planned. Have you ever had dementia completely change your plans? Share your story below. #DementiaCare…

DIVAS Is Plural, Baby. Let’s Break This Down. #DivasAndDementia
Someone said this page isn’t about my mother — that I just “want to be seen.” Let’s clear something up. The page is called DIVAS and Dementia. Divas is plural. That means more than one. Caregiving does not erase the caregiver. We can love our mothers loudly AND exist boldly. Both things can be true. If you’re a caregiver who has ever been judged, misunderstood, or told you’re “doing too much” — this video…
She’s NOT Overmedicated… It’s Dementia. Let’s Talk About Sundowning.
I see the comments. “She looks over medicated.” “She’s not in the mood.” Let me clear something up. Dementia is not a steady line. It shifts with the hour. A morning visit can look light, funny, and conversational. An evening visit during sundowning can look like confusion, agitation, or withdrawal. That’s not medication. That’s the rhythm of dementia. Caregiving requires understanding the timing —…
Watching Your Parent Fade… The Truth About Dementia & Caregiving 💔
Dementia doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed… it changes the caregiver too. Because there’s nothing that prepares you for watching the parent you once knew… slowly become someone different. The conversations change. The roles reverse. The memories fade. And somehow… you’re expected to stay strong through all of it. This journey is emotional. It’s heavy. It will stretch you in ways you never…
When Dementia Affects Eating: Helping Mama Get the Nourishment She Needs 💜
One thing many caregivers don’t expect on the dementia journey is how eating habits can change. Lately, Mama has been losing weight because she would rather walk than sit down and eat. And when you’re caring for someone living with dementia, making sure they get proper nourishment becomes a real challenge. In this video, I share a real moment from our caregiving journey and why it’s so important…
