10 years ago, I privately refused a gifted Alexa after Christmas, explaining “Hey I work in the industry, I know people who work for FAANG, Amazon spending billions on very smart engineers building systems to harvest data is a bet that they will be able to extract even more money from me, is it still within the return window.” My aunt told me to go live in a cave.

Piracy didn’t start in 2006, before that there was likewise and Napster, and before that bootleg DVDs, and before that the MPAA spent billions lobbying to ban VHSs with a record function and get draconian punishments for recording movies.

That account has been posting consistently for 3 years. Is it easier to just call every leftist a bot than confront the fact that people like Chuck Schumer and Hakime Jefferies do not want what we want and are going to fight us just as hard as any republican?

>Obama tried to lay the groundwork for single payer health insurance but it was blocked by republicans He was blocked by 40 republican senators? A parliamentarian? Crazy how republicans are never blocked like this. The only conclusion we can draw from dem actions is that they agree with genocide, ICE, allocating healthcare by wealth, etc, but know its unpopular with the people whose votes they're asking for. >My only interest is getting republicans and Trump out of office because nothing else is possible until that happens. You know what doesn't help? Telling people to shut the fuck up and vote for a party that openly despises them. You know what can help? Keeping people activated on their issues. This only works if the dems don't stand up to their own base.

>Because republicans are more influenced by private interest groups You're saying being influenced by private influence groups is what allows republicans to use power to do things? This doesn't track. >Leftists are the only ones using this type of rhetoric which is why they are so unpopular with voters. What? >You mean like Fetterman and Sinema? How bout we blame all leftists for their actions the same way you try to scapegoat democrats for the actions of republicans. When dems have the power to stop a thing, and don't, this implies they agree with the thing. When dems continue republican policies after they take power, it implies they support that policy.

Here in China, the yellow scooters/ebikes cost about 40 cents for a 30 minute ride. In Japan, I think the LUUP scooters were 1.50 USD for the first 30 minutes, but you could get a monthly pass that capped how much you could get charged.

Do you still have chinese citizenship? A few immigrant friends have gotten the paperwork ready, either to return to their home country or immigrate elsewhere, just incase ICE picks them up, they can agree to self-deport instead of ending up in a salvadorian concentration camp indefinitely. IDK how the chinese US citizenship thing works, maybe China'd accept getting literally deported as proof you're not a US citizen.

>According to google (I am not a lawyer) I don’t have it anymore the moment I got US citizenship Yes, but if the US says you never actually had citizenship, maybe China will accept that. >If I had to leave the US, I rather go to Canada, Australia, or perhaps EU for asylum I've heard they've made it harder to get asylum, and there's often poor outcomes for asylum seekers, after Arab Spring. If you have a US passport and money to start a business or any extended family, you can stay for quite awhile. This applies to most of Asia too where US passport gets you 90 days on arrival, or 90 day evisa for vietnam. US passports are pretty powerful. >Or perhaps Taiwan, or maybe Singapore. Never been to either, can't tell you about it. >I have an existential crisis over it… I’m not even supposed to be alive in this world, I’m an anomoly. Eh, it's a different place now. My family who worked there in the 90s and 2000s had completely alien experiences to when I went there in last year. All I'm saying is it'd be wise to be aware of what options you have.

>Mental health acceptance is stilk a huge issue Yes, definitely. Mental health (and regular healthcare in some specific ways) definitely has room for improvement. Only panhandler I remember was a guy asking people for money, with what looked like his mother, saying he had depression. >Also, if I posted any of my posts that I posted here about my mother’s behaviors on the Chinese internet Depends on who the audience is. I've seen quite a few Chinese, particularly LGBT+ posting about their parents on xhs, but presumably there's not a lot of boomers in their algo. >My ideal country would be one with a lot of Asians (or more specifically, ethnic Han Chinese) but that are westernized If you have Chinese citizenship, but your hukou is mainland China, can you get a job in Hong Kong? I didn't like the few hours that I spent there, it's expensive and charmless, but it's pretty westernized. Also maybe talk to people who live there, your mother sounds like she might have a specific agenda in which experiences she shares. That's not to say abusive families aren't a major issue. One chinese was confused that americans don't beat their children, "even if the child is intentionally misbehaving". She seemed to accept "children learn from their parents, so hit someone who doesn't do what you want isn't something I want to teach" tho. I didn't investigate if that meant she sometimes beats the kid for behavior she believes is unintentional too.

There was the pilot, and the navigator, whose job it was to read the map and say stuff like “the exit after this” Somehow family members who lived through this lost the ability to navigate. I though my sister and later mother were fucking with me when I would ask and they would repeat word-for-word what apple maps just said, expecting me to read the names of every street we drove by. No turns out they literally cannot read a map and say “turn right in 2 streets, right before the McDonalds”, they have to follow the little arrow until it gets to the turn.

Voting is a 5 minute activity once every few years Local races>general primary>midterm primary>midterm election>general. Its genuinely more important you make sure another Biden doesn’t win the primary than to vote in the general. If a Biden or Harris does win, your vote in the general is useless since they’re unelectable, and if they still somehow win, they’re going to betray the base by continuing and expanding republican policies until the republicans are back in power.

Once you find the exact material and labor required to meet specifications, spending more to exceed them is simply wasteful. If you want modern engineering to build something that will last 2000 years with minimal maintaince, it’ll be expensive and kinda shitty to live in.

Maybe, but what shocks me is how much quicker children seem to mature outside the US, like 6 year olds walking across town to get to school in Japan, its gotta be more than “how much do physically vs psychologically beat the kid”, and it doesn’t seem to be “just give the kid more responsibility” since I had an actual conversation with a 6 year old on a train ride in China, he was way more advanced than my 9 year old nephew. I think it has something to do with the type of enrichment a kid experiences, like being strapped to a carseat playing a “tap button on iPad, get reward” game is probably as bad for a kid’s development as locking them in a plain white room.
