Interesting...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources/all/Daily_Mail
"In the 2017 RfC, the Daily Mail was the first source to be deprecated on Wikipedia, and the decision was challenged and reaffirmed in the 2019 RfC. There is consensus that the Daily Mail (including its online version, MailOnline) is generally unreliable, and its use as a reference is generally prohibited, especially when other sources exist that are more reliable. As a result, the Daily Mail should not be used for determining notability, nor should it be used as a source in articles. The Daily Mail has a 'reputation for poor fact checking, sensationalism, and flat-out fabrication'. ..."

@liilliil@mastodon.online You want to ban the same Wikipedia that goes out of its way to use reliable sources that readers can verify for themselves? Let's not.

@SnoopSqueak@mastodon.social I was born and raised in the USSR. I grew up in a political system with 1 party and 1 opinion, which was considered the most advanced in the world. With Gorbachev's arrival, I learned about such things as pluralism. And it’s normal. There are different views, lifestyles & opinions in the world. What do we see on Wikipedia? Extreme bias, one opinion. Wikipedia is constantly overwhelmed by scandals when people with opinions other than the mainstream are banned. Is it normal? No!

@SnoopSqueak@mastodon.social oh… Hunter Biden laptop, COVID-19 lab leak, Russia–Ukraine & Israeli–Palestinian wars, Holodomor, Armenian genocide, Tibet and so on & on
I was personally banned by the Ukrainian (!) steward only for the fact that I pointed out that a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church, who was detained in the Czech Republic for cocaine, was connected with Russian (!) government structures. With sources, of course

@liilliil@mastodon.online Would you mind elaborating? Because when you just say "Hunter Biden Laptop," I can imagine you dislike either angle. Which one do you perceive as true vs the Wikipedia bias?
I am curious about your ban. I have no means to do anything about it, but I am interested.

@liilliil@mastodon.online I'm sorry to hear that, although I can't pass judgements yet because I don't know the full story of yours.
In any case, that's only a tip of the iceberg. There are Epstein-level scandals implicating Wikipedia sysops but the media haven't caught wind on it yet.

Then there's a new book on Wikipedia's issues and how it become no different than Big Tech websites. The publisher previously written a book on how to fight data centers.

@liilliil@mastodon.online And no, it's not just "people outside the mainstream" getting banned. In one case there's a situation where a group of mainstream-leaning editors, presumably in Asia, got banned by toxic admins and harassed by a globally banned user who reportedly was able to game the system to her benefit. In another case in Israel, several people were recently convicted for stalking a female researcher on Hebrew Wikipedia.
