I finally got a chance to get down to business and start painting the Warhammer minis that I've been collecting over the past 2 months or so. I'm so happy that my first ever mini is painted!

I tried the SlapChop technique and wow, it was more challenging that I was expecting. Drybrushing effectively is harder than it looks, and AP Speedpaints dry FAST... and once they're dry on the pallette, they're done.

I'm super happy with how my first Salamander Space Marine turned out, even if it's no where near perfect. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun painting it.

@symbology@social.linux.pizza Nice! Congrats on your first model! I think you’ll find slapchop + contrast/speed paints are an easier technique on surfaces with more variation and/or texture. Flat panels are always tricky. Juan Hidalgo does the best at speed / contrast marines - check out https://youtu.be/587XziFMTi0 if you’re interested

@mcjwarhammer@dice.camp Thanks for the comments. It honestly felt so good to get the first one out of the way... and from a tabletop standard I think he looks great. This particular mini was kind of an "extra" model that I ended up with that I thought to experiment with. I have another that I'm going to try the base-coat/highlight approach, so we'll see which I like better. I'm expecting my Salamanders CP box to arrive to form the basis of my army and the serious painting will begin. I have a 1k list planned out based on that box that should be decent; I can't wait to play an actual game. lol Whilst I am looking for a bit darker green to my 'manders, I really love the Salamanders you've displayed on your feed. They look fantastic in the photos. #Warhammer #warhammer40k #salamanders40k

@symbology@social.linux.pizza Love a good test model. I keep a few lying around for experiments; never know when you need to try out a new technique. I found it to work *really* well on space marines. I haven't done it en masse yet, but am going to give it a shot on my next project.
