BIG OL HOT TIP for folks like me using PiHole to block ads and trackers etc *and* devices on the latest iOS: You’re gonna want to turn off “Connectivity assist” right tf now. This feature used to be helpful when the wifi genuinely had no internet connectivity, but apparently iOS 27 uses it to *re-request DNS queries that failed because you intentionally blocked them*. This feature bypassed my filters for **132MB** of ads and trackers while I was hunting this down 🤬🤬🤬

I’m running an experiment: I’m 3d printing a bunch of MagSafe stands and keeping my phone’s max charge at 80% to see if we can beat the next wave of planned obsolescence.

I do like that despite the prevailing winds in the tech industry, Apple decided that the best way to give people that nice wide-aperture look on photos was to just stop faking it and give them a lens with a real aperture.

The alphabet soup brands on Amazon kind of remind me of the names of the moon folks in The Dispossessed. "Is it true that you get your names from a computer?" "Yes." "How dreary, to be named by a machine!" "Why dreary?" "It's so mechanical, so impersonal." "But what is more personal than a name no other living person bears?" "No one else? You're the only She...

There’s just something about microtones that gives me this tingling sensation of… remembering something from another life or another reality. It’s so wild. This track layers in microtonal components starting around 1:30: https://wordcolour.bandcamp.com/track/fundamentals

    > “The irony is that a minority once viewed as filled with sissies […] is now portrayed as filled with bullies and power brokers, and straight people, especially men, seem to perceive themselves as the weak and afraid ones. This inversion explains a host of baffling political and cultural phenomena of late. It also shows that some of the most durable stereotypes about gay people were never really about sexuality—which might explain why the homophobes […] seem to fit those stereotypes.”

My best architectural & design decisions are the product of letting my mind wander in perfect silence. There’s this brain worm in tech that you should delegate all your thinking to, or at least constantly collaborate with, agents. The problem is that the nature of that kind of thinking is incredibly narrow and monotonous. LLMs are made of language, but the mind has so many other ways of cogitating, and a lot problems are best engaged with nonlinguistic thinking.
