  The Goois Natuur­reservaat keeps 2900 hectares open across 65 separate areas, a land­scape of delibe­rately main­tained poverty. Part of that work is done by walking a flock of Drenthe heath sheep onto a field and standing there while it eats. The flock crops back invading grass and carries heather seed in its wool.   Scottish Lowlanders The Goois Natuurreservaat has kept Scottish Highland cattle on the heath since the late 1980s. A herd built for a mountain winter, now grazing where the heather is still out.
