  @aral Oh, my goodness. If I dropped a product whenever its maker blundered that badly, I'd be down to nothing but Tinker Toys. Fact is, the reports of their errors were far beyond the actual mistakes they made. Nonetheless, they rewound the entire thing in response to public backlash. They even stated, for all to read, that they had erred. All corporations make mistakes. Not all undo them. Even fewer admit they made them. With prudent caution, I forgive them.

  @dukope Like many a good logo, this cursor follows easily repeated geometric references. The left edge is vertical. The angle of the arrow's point is 45 degrees. The trailing edge of the right "wing" is horizontal. Being symmetrical, one needs only the arrow/stem length ratio and stem's length/width ratio to fully recreate it.

  @aral Oh, they could have forged ahead. The actual impact of what they planned on 98% of the outraged community would have been utterly nothing. People forget quickly. But, you are quite right: the public insisted on a reversal, and got it. I can tell you it was a panicky few days on my campus. I had students coming to me to ask if their careers had already been ruined before they started. Today, it's as though the whole thing was just a bad dream.

  @aral Yeah, that's for sure. I am looking into Godot, an open source alternative. Best reports so far are that it's not yet competitive with Unity. But, it is improving and my needs are not that demanding. Also, as a teacher, I would like to be able to refer to the source code.

  Almost no one who reads this is ever likely going to care, but I would like to make a public record of the following: If you are using GIMP 2.8, do not run Epic Pen at the same time. Doing so stops GIMP from using the mouse to click selected controls. You can give them focus, but you will have to tap the space bar to enter the actual mouseclick. Shut down Epic Pen if this is happening and the mouse will work again. Of course, you can run Epic Pen again later, if you want to.

  I have had my lifetime fill of op-eds. They all recycle the same shallow faulty logic to make the same partisan points, over and over. In most cases, they embrace the causation/correlation fallacy, the Fallacy of the Middle, or both. I haven't learned anything from them, nor been exposed to a new idea in one of them, in decades.   I love the fediverse, but I do note a high density of posts that not only offer a point of view (with which I often agree), but also a dose of guilt (which I usually don't think I deserve). Most of it is in the form of, "Be ashamed if you don't already know/promote/act-on this." Maybe I should try it in an area where I have some expertise myself... How's this?   So after some long thought, I have moved to another Mastodon instance. Going forward, I am Professor_Stevens@mastodon.gamedev.place. I moved my follows/followers, so hoping to stay in touch with the great friends I've made here. And I can't say enough good things about SDF and how well they support us. Just thought an instance devoted to game development was more appropriate for me at this point. Let's stay in touch, stay federated, and stay kind to one another.
