@sjsmac @newsguyusa and yet, various social media platforms have a history of not banning world leaders / removing their posts that break their policies...

  @bloor #Tory governments, how else?

• View post

@bloor ok, so why are the altnets not doing well? Is someone eating their lunch?

@bloor I've not looked recently, but around 2021/2022 my sister bought internet from BT (without talking to me first!).. after about 4 failed visits they managed to get fibre installed, and she told me what her monthly fee was... I was surprised that it was about the same as I pay @aaisp. Now, I normally consider A&A to be on the pricier side of ISPs, but worth it if you want a decent service. Very surprised that a bog standard BT connection, with BT levels of support was a simi...

@bloor @aaisp yep, but I have absolutely no problem paying a bit extra for a good supplier that won't try to rip me off and can actually support the product they are selling, rather than racing to the bottom.

@Edent But I would love to know the best place to buy CR2032 cells for all the zigbee things I own. Good-brands are expensive, cheap unbranded things are crap.

@NAB There are lives to be saved if a few specific people were dead. But this is "trolly problem" territory and I do not want to be the one deciding whether or not to pull that lever. Unfortunately "declining the power" is a choice not to save people.

@revk Designed to survive a nuclear war, not designed to survive capitalism.

@neil Thanks for this. How are they still getting this so wrong - the CTIRU list might sometimes be a bit of a mess, but it is at least a machine readable list of URIs, surely the sanctions list could have been piggybacked onto that existing infrastructure! BTW, your blog has mangled the dashes in the punycode into emdash/endash. RUS3052 has a couple of paths within t.me and a YouTube channel (which as you point out, an ISP is not going to be able to block, but some of us are in a position to)

@neil I do hope that "crackdown on dodgy online sellers" means that Amazon are going to become liable for dangerous goods sold through their platform...

@r3bo0tbx1 Hmm, yes, it appears that this wasn't the cause... I shall review my proxy logs some more.

@andyprice Pretty unpleasant here last night... I might sleep in the hammock outside tonight! The humidity is pretty bad - we have a stone floor in the kitchen, which has stayed quite cool (below the dew point) and has been sopping wet.

  I think the #MetOffice may have been slightly wrong :( #weather #hot #toohot

@andyprice Oops, very happy it isn't that hot!

• View post

@neil I have been drinking a lot of iced lattés during this hot weather - a very nice substitute for hot coffee.

@techcrunch maybe the politicians and billionaires should be under constant surveillance by the rest of us? You know, to make them behave better...

@andyprice I'm pretty sure a jigawatt is not a unit of power... Or anything else for that matter! :) But at least you can go back to a time before your house was too hot.

@vwdasher @serichards I was seriously tempted to spend the night in the co-op - they have air conditioning and ice cream.

@fesshole if it is just about CoG, it doesn't have to be a symmetrical pattern, of course. Nor in the centre.

Really don't understand the #Google #Maps corrections process. They have my home address completely wrong. I have now submitted a correction 3 times to make it match the Royal Mail's records, and Google has rejected it 3 times...

@neil Have you tried to use IPv6 over TOR's SOCKS5 server? I have Privoxy set up to forward to TOR over SOCKS5 and am finding that when Privoxy tries to connect to an IPv6 address TOR says the connection failed. Wondering if I have missed some config.

@justine I don't use any (nor want to use any) banking apps on my phone. I'll stick to the web sites unless they force me onto an app, and if the app won't run on a rooted phone I'll find a new bank (TBH, forcing me to use an app at all would probably make me seriously think about switching).

@toychicken Santander, Virgin Money and Barclays seem to have functional websites. I don't usually bank from a mobile device though. That said, Virgin are now part of Nationwide, who screwed me over 18 years ago, so...
