  Fighting with this Tascam Porta One on and off for about two weeks. It took ten hours to address its myriad of issues. Then, right when I thought I was done, I found the Record LED wouldn't go solid when Record is engaged. If the tape mech from another Porta One is installed, recording works, so the problem is somewhere in the mechanism itself. The very flimsy wires keep breaking off as I test, so I suspect there's a bad solder joint somewhere... #recdel #4track #repair

  Orange juice was spilled on this Tascam 414, so the transport buttons had sticky movement, which got worse for the client over time. It actually prevented Play from staying engaged. I ended up having to fully disassemble and clean the front and back of the mechanism, which I've only had to maybe once or twice in 10 years. Replaced a shorted zener diode which was causing pulsing in the playback speed — another result of the liquid spill. #recdel #repair #4Track #ElectronicsRepair #vinta...

  "Broke ground" on the new RDAV mixing room with help (and 📸) from @NadiaPurge. 🔨 Still a lot of work to do. Currently figuring out all the lumber we'll need to build some false walls, a huge acoustic diffuser, a chairmat and some other odds and ends. Many more acoustic panels to hang, then installing gear, running cables...   Acquired 320+ previously-used-but-very-clean Type II cassette tapes this afternoon; a mixture of 60- and 90-minute lengths, including many grey-shelled Maxell XL IIs. That's a little over 50 lbs (22.5 kg) of tapes! They're being run through the 4-bay tape winder now to pack them completely before individually swiping them across the industrial bulk eraser.
