"You can't trust code that you did not totally create yourself. (Especially code from companies that employ people like me.) No amount of source-level verification or scrutiny will protect you from using untrusted code." - Ken Thompson, "Reflections on Trusting Trust", 1983. True then and true today.

Hey US #Fedi friends: #Verizon home phone lines (VOiP). Is it possible for them to receive a SMS text message, maybe in the form of an automated computer voice message? Trying to send a SMS 6 digit verification code to a Verizon home phone (not copper/PSTN, it'll be a VoIP line over the FiOS) and it isn't showing up. Is there anything that can be checked to see if the line can receive SMS text messages? (I'm trying to troubleshoot this from 3500+ miles away :( ) Thanks...

Weird. Dovecot v2.3.31.1 and K-9 (#mozilla Android Mail) have issues. On a new account, K-9 can't find the "Sent" folder. However, works with "Samsung Mail" (which I am assuming is or was a rebranded generic Android mail app?) What is up with that? Even creating an empty directory under Maildir results in K-9 still being confused and not finding a Sent folder.

Hey #IPv6 folks: If I do NOT have a /64 assigned to me and only have a single IPv6 assigned, am I better off adding fd00::/7 addresses to the jails and then NAT'ing to them like I do with the IPv4 addresses? I don't think I have any other kind of choice here. #FreeBSD #networking

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good #wiki software to host in a #FreeBSD jail? There was an article floating around 3-4 months ago about installing one in a FreeBSD jail but Mastodon is so horrendously bad at search, I can't find it. Bonus if it doesn't use PHP and is lightweight! Thanks muchly!!

Is it possible to bind both ipv4 and ipv6 addresses to a jail? I'm using bastille and for now I've just added the ipv4 (RFC1918) addresses, but I'm running unbound in a jail as a local DNS resolver and I want to let in IPv6 traffic. Thing is, I'm not sure what range to use. Do I use a fc00::/7 ?

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do Disk I/O benchmarks? I want to compare a ZFS disk with an ext4 disk. Seems bonnie++ works slower on ZFS so I'm not sure what stats to look at, or if bonnie++ is even the right tool for the job.

I've seen a new wave of scraper bots. They use the user agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/142.0.0.0 Safari/537.36 I counted 12267 unique IP addresses from all over the world. They hit the hell out of one URL and then disappear after 20-30 minutes.

Something I noticed on my $dayjob Macbook: Sadly the company I work for thought it best to install chatgpt, Claude, and cursor using Iru (formerly Kandji). I noticed when chatgpt gets installed, it appears to allocate for itself some local storage under my Firefox profile. The reason I know this is, I rm -fr'd all that shit but when it got reinstalled by Iru, it recreated that local storage bit again. The installer must scan for browser profiles it can infect like a barnacle. I might...
