While I was away on a break from the socials i got this beauty! I've entered into the regional 25 meter single arrow competitions, so if you do archery in the NL you might find me there

Update!! I'm working on designing and building a custom UV exposure box to replace the janky one that i built a few months ago and used exactly once. Check out: this fuckin' thing! You load a PCB blank into the alignment jig, and tape a transparent sheet with the design onto a glass plate. The plate is loaded into the machine and aligned using the jig. Then the claws move down and press the design firmly onto the blank. UV leds expose the design and afterwards everything is rele...

I think i'm onto something here, but the design is... Awful. Yes, technically this device can press the glass plate (with the design) down onto the PCB blank carrier. But the whole concept with the four pillers is.. Eh. Alignment is a bitch, and it all binds a bit too much. But i think i can make this work. I tink it works a bit better when i make the base plates out of a more precise material instead of MDF. I guess this design requires some amount of precision. I might redo the desi...

Even though this project does not go as planned i'm still making progress. And thats really good for me because it means that i'm not endlessly dwelling on the same little details and dreaming about what i _could_ have made, but actually _making_ the damn thing

Well, i've bitten the bullet. I ordered supplies for etching my own PCBs. I think my process will be as follows: The design will be printed on regular paper using a toner printer. I will use 100x150mm PCB blanks which come with a photosensitive layer already bonded. Using mineral oil, i can make the paper (mostly) transparent while the toner blocks the light. Then i will use an array of slightly UV leds to expose the board. Unexposed photoresist will be removed using a solution of sod...

Sidenote, i swear to actual fucking god, if this printer throws a tantrum because it is not connected to the internet i will fucking gut it. Like, i'll bring an actual sledgehammer to its ass. Its a shame of the wasted money but it wasn't that expensive to begin with. I'll get over it. Fucking HP. I thought their office printers werent full of this bullshit but i guess i was wrong. This shit drives me up the fucking wall. If i ever get a new printer I'll make su...

This will be the rough idea for exposing the boards. 12 UV LEDs (mostly UV-A) will be running at fair power, approximately 1W each. Now that I think about it, it might be a bit overkill. Or maybe not. I have no idea! Because of the high power I have bonden the LEDs to a small heat spreader plate, which are thermally coupled to an aluminium L-profile. This also mounts them in place. I got a small 330mA buck current driver for powerig them in series. In the future i'll probably add a con...

I have just finished etching my first board. What an adventure. I discovered that my printer prints in higher resolution when printing from Windows, even though there aren't really any resolution settings to be found. I printed a test pattern on transparent paper and immediately forgot to flip it. I'm not too thrilled with the printing quality (imo its a bit smudgy sometimes) but the fine features are definitely there. I exposed the 4 different sections in 10 second intervals,...

At this pace i'll soon be doing photolithography and making my own silicon

So! I adjusted the parameters a bit and made sure i got good contact between the design and the board. That last one helped immensely! I can now get a crisp clear transfer of the design into the photoresist. .. And thats where a problem lies. My printer isn't the best, and it especially doesn't play well with transparent paper. Even on the darkest setting, the design just doesn't look dark enough. And it smudges a bit, even after running the cleaning program. In some pla...

Its calibration time! My P1S 3D printer has got an XY skew somewhere, and the bed leveling compensation is moving quite a bit when traveling along the bed. So I have just performed a manual bed leveling using the adjustment screws and am now running the automatic calibration. After that I will perform the skew calibration

Wow! This thing just quieted the fuck down after running the full calibration. I think they added noise suppression in a firmware update and i never performed it
