For World Jellyfish Day I am sharing self-taught trail-blazing Irish #marineBiologist Maude Delap (1866 – 1953), 1st to successfully breed jellyfish in captivity & document their full lifecycle. She is surrounded by blue #jellyfish (Cyanea lamarckii) life stages based on her diagrams. Born 7th of 10 kids to Rev Alexander & Anna Jane Delap in County Donegal, her family to Valentia Island when she was 8. Sisters Maude & Constance were encouraged in their interest in #biology & #zo...

My 12yo wanted to be a borb (rotund orb-shaped bird) - specifically a black-capped chickadee. We worked on his costume all month. I had to take him to school Friday cause he couldn’t carry his backpack. He won the costume contest at school for a second year running and was a hit trick-or-treating!

Happy birthday to the first woman to earn a doctorate in science, physicist and professor Laura Maria Caterina Bassi Veratti (née, & known throughout her life as Bassi, 1711-1778). I’ve shown her surrounded by the sort of state-of-the-art instrumentation she would have used in her lab to investigate electricity: an electrical machine, conductors, an aurora flask, a luminous discharge tube, a Lane electrometer, 🧵1/ https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/4436745646 #printmaking #womenInSTEM #his...

For the #spacetober_challenge day 21 prompt Artemis III I made a mini #linocut print of Earth & Moon. The crewed mission is a demonstration in low Earth orbit to test rendezvous & docking operations between Orion & 2 Human Landing System spacecraft developed by Blue Origin & SpaceX respectively. My print is inspired by NASA photos from the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite capturing the dark side of the moon passing in front of the lit side of Ea...

I decided that to make a garden-filled postcard calendar of my handprinted linocut plants and pollinators! All our lovely little insects friends - native bees, butterflies, flower flies, moths and beetles with flowers, blossoms, grasses, leaves and petals. Perfect size for a little desk calendar and designed so you can trim the grid off and enjoy the art once the months are through! Happy birthday to Antonie van Leeuwenhoek (1632 – 1723), the Dutch scientist & progenitor of #microbiology known for his improvements to microscope tech. He was a draper in Delft, then a politician with an interest in lensmaking. Using his handmade #microscopes, he was 1st to observe microorganisms, which he called tiny animals, or “animalcules”. He also made pioneering microscopic observations on muscle fibres, bacteria, coffee 🧵 https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/386750946 #linocut...
