I think it’s important to call this shit out and call it what it is but it does make me a little sad that this “worthless slop” gets infinitely more press coverage than any game I’ve ever made. https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/steam-week-in-review-steam-next-fest-has-over-8-000-demos-as-worthless-vibe-coded-slop-levels-up/

RE: https://otter.garden/@joel/117430625038852546 So not only is this annoying for, like, aesthetic reasons, two pretty load bearing parts of how I interact with the IndieWeb (indie auth, quill) have stopped working as of yesterday. The former's replacement, IndieKey, doesn't work at all. Granted these are mostly PHP apps so I don't know how they're affected by the recent CVE but it's hard not to draw a direct line from Claude being introduced to these...

Well, here I am in the credits of Gears of War: E-Day. Worked on this for the last couple years along with my fellow companions at Companion Group.

Cat’s been off her food recently. Won’t eat her dinner unless we spoon feed her on the sofa, won’t touch dry food at all. Vet diagnosis: fussy little madam

Seems even the IndieWeb community has fully bought into AI slop, the one place I really thought never would. Like, wasn’t this the point? To make our own things?

I’ve now read all of Earthsea. Don’t think a fantasy series has affected me so deeply since I first read Tolkien or Pratchett. And now there is no more! I am bereft

I need to do a little redesign on my blog so that posts don’t absolutely HAVE to have images, because it means I often don’t write because a big “proper” post feels like a huge undertaking and I could be writing things bigger than notes, smaller than posts

Read a blog recently where the author said “LLMs use fewer tokens for input than output so they’re cheap if you don’t use them to generate code” which does kind of ignore that “reasoning” involves models generating text to talk to themselves ad nauseum

I kind of crashed out this week. Generative AI has made a lot of my hobbies and creative endeavours feel pointless, when I'm not in a good headspace. I had a good conversation with a friend that helped, so I wrote about it, so I can read it when it happens again. https://www.joelotter.com/posts/2026/09/make-it-anyway/
