A rare jazzy side of EXID. In this tune they extol the virtues of meeting your lover at night: "the darker the night, the better" EXID - Night Rather Than Day https://youtu.be/5wEjz3RdnKA #InTheShadows #kpopmonday #EXID #kpop

How about Blackpink's queen of darkness in the smoking hot "You & Me"? This selection brought to you by my wife's unfailing ability to recall an appropriate MV. Jennie - You & Me https://youtu.be/eQNHDV7lKgE #InTheShadows #kpopmonday #Blackpink #Jennie #kpop

Edit: *Medicare* So our senile and corrupt president has issued a one-time $90 payment to Medicare recipients here in the US of A. This payment, coming as it does weeks before the mid-term elections, and in the wake of his recent ludicrous statements about $5,000 payments to Americans 'if the Republicans win,' is a thinly veiled bribe. So I did the rational thing and donated that amount to progressive candidates in close congressional races, as well as some to help a family in...

Created a free trial subscription to the Atlantic so I could read James Fallows' 1996 article "Why Americans Hate the Media". I forget who recommended it to me, but a good read. tl;dr Shift to focus on horserace politics and away from issues that actually matter. Things are if anything worse today at big networks, but the information is out there if you're willing to put in the work. Gift(?) article: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/1996/02/why-am...

A couple of pics from today's #nokings protest in Boulder Creek. I handed my camera to a nearby activist, and the picture (of me in a green vest) came out with artistic blurring. Two other activists posed enthusiastically with their signs. #indivisible #slv

Tuesday update: Today I finished putting vinyl flooring in the hall bathroom. And I replaced a toilet for the first time. Toilets are actually pretty heavy, and all sorts of things have to be lined up just so, tightened enough but not TOO much, and so on. Which is all to say that - I'm really beat now. On the upside, I was too focused on my project to worry too much about politics. I'm relieved our Great Leader did not start WWIII. Miss NOT worrying about Armageddon every gd d...

Happy Saturday. I hope y'all are doing as well as possible today. Felt like posting a random update. In personal K-Pop news, it looks like August will be a very busy month. We already have tickets to see i-dle and IVE, and Mamamoo just announced a Bay Area appearance on August 27. Waiting for info about when tickets go on sale. In rock and roll news, I'm seeing 80's alternative band Throwing Muses later this month.... 1/N #weekendcheckIn

I know we've had a couple of high-energy Babymonster songs added already. But this is my chance to post their pre-debut release Dream. This ballad really highlights the members' beautiful voices. And yes, tears always well up at the montage of embryo Babymonsters as itty bitty trainees 🥹 Babymonster - Dream https://youtu.be/ynOtYmpZxak #KpopMonday #5thGenerationKpop #Babymonster #Kpop

cw: purging Once again picking a video at random. However, I already love this MV of them being brats and total badasses. I'm definitely going to check out their catalog. Here's Baby Don't Cry with "F Girl" Adding trigger warning for 'humorous' purging which is kinda uncool 🤨 Baby Don't Cry - F Girl https://youtu.be/uWT79Qq52sU #KpopMonday #5thGenerationKpop #BabyDontCry #Kpop

I picked this TripleS Japanese release "Password" somewhat at random. TripleS seems like more of a multi-level marketing scheme than a K-Pop group, but I find the concept intriguing, and this 24-member (!) ensemble has produced a lot of good content. Young Posse are one of the more exciting new groups IMO. Their recent single Visa adds a bit of an aggressive electronica edge to their hip hop heavy catalog. This song by AOA subunit AOA Black is one of my faves, and doesn't get mentioned enough. In the music video the boy band which gets rudely brushed aside returns to play a song by CNBlue, which I now know thanks to last week's playlist 🙌 Please enjoy MOYA by AOA Black! A couple more 3rd gen girl groups that deserve to be lifted up. Going through Momoland's catalog, they didn't waver much from their formula, but it served them well. While everyone is anticipating the latest comebacks and releases, I'm out here digging for 1st Gen K-Pop gold 🪙 @jemmesedi and I were talking about "Dreams Come True" which was covered by aespa in 2022. He enlightened me that this song was previously performed by SES in the late 90's. I had to look up that version and of course it's amazing. Such a hooky song, with great vocals and that awesome synth line. https://youtu.be/JR_FQP4ypuM #kpop #ses #Fir...
