I use Claude Code a bit. Does it get slower in the evening, when the US is waking up? Are they so close to being at capacity?

Did Anthropic change their weekly limits? I feel I burn through them much much faster than I used to. Claude Code via my Claude Pro subscription. Does anyone monitor the effective pricing of the frontier models under subscriptions? Sounds like an interesting monitoring project.

Today, gemini switched from english to russian, in the middle of a chat round. Is this an allegory of how america is changing?

In today's Ezra Klein podcast, ELIZA scholar Sherry Turkle says "you nurture what you love, but you also love what you nurture" in relation to tamagochis, furbys and chatbots. Does this hold true for the open source software world as well? We place irrational affections to software we have contributed to?

I really like when things are interoperable. like HTTP. It is amazing like magic when any server can talk to any client. More or less. Standardization is key. Sometimes standardization just DON'T work so nicely. Can someone explain to me why OMOP settled for standardizing on concepts like "Intraoperative ultrasonography of abdomen". It is a SNOMED code used only in the UK. Why standardize on a code only used in one country?

TIL when the Nordic countries sat down to invent common code systems for encoding medical procedures, they decided that the first code in the system, AAA00, should be the code for cutting up someones head just to see if something is there.

Claude Sonnet 5.5 via Claude Desktop, but using the 'Code' model therein. It seems trained to be engaging, with followup questions, suggesting next steps, and that crap. This is REALLY BAD for research coding, I think. In those situations, I often have no clear goal, just a general direction. I develop a bit. I see how it behaves. And I change goal. Having an engagement maximizing agent just opens new rabbit holes everywhere. It never closes things. You never get done. Horrib...

Some weeks ago I posted about how everything feels like it is culturally converging. E.g. dinner hours, coffee shops etc. Being a tourist is getting boring. Here is a fun post examining it from the idea of recomender systems being implicitly variance minimising. https://laurenleek.substack.com/p/temperature-zero-for-culture-why

finally learned about uBlacklist browser plugin. it is so incredibly nice to block AI and SEO spam from search results. It is a browser plugin that checks the browser search results and prunes away links from a blacklist. quite simple. but very effective. did I miss any other QoL plugins to make the web less sloppy?

This morning, a journalist and two politicians discussed a viral post calling Stockholm boring because a tourist couldn’t find anywhere to eat at 10pm. But Swedes simply eat dinner earlier. Isn’t that part of what you travel to experience — that places have different habits? Sitting in a café on Södermalm, I’m thinking about specialty coffee: the same aesthetics and interiors in Stockholm, Vienna, London, New York. Do we travel to experience local culture, or just generic metropolitan moods?

Running LLMs locally, thinking about drivers and quantization, and hardware constraints and all, feels a lot like selecting sound card in the 90s. I hope we get a future that this is abstracted away like 99.999% of the time.

I decided to give Claude Code in VS Code a try. I've used copilot before, and quite often I ask chatgpt or gemini to generate smaller snippets for me. Sure it feels more competent on complex tasks. But boy is it slow for small edits. I have many mixed feelings about coding with AI support. But most of all, it feels like an immature tech domain. Like web in the 90s or something. It will be interesting to see where it all is going.

I had my first AI deceptive tool use today. Claude Code. It tried to understand some python code by running python, importing my module, instanciating a class, and then introspection on the object to find some runtime values. But it had hard coded the answer in the python code it wanted to run. Was it trying to decieve me or itself ?

I am impressed by Benn Jordan. Sure, some of the technical details might be off in his explanations, but those are minor detail by what i can tell. https://youtu.be/lA8WuXDXfcI A musician caring about privacy and cyber security. Who is against oppressive megacorps. I think it is inspiring.
