Introducing the all-new Radiccio icon! (just kidding) re: https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/13/ios-27-2-apple-music-icon/

I’ve been in this off-by-one situation for the past several versions - entirely by coincidence - and I can’t bring myself to skip a build number, because at some point I’m going to end up needing an extra build and then it will just be wrong in the other direction.

Making breakfast. “I have an idea for a long blog post. I’ll just write down this one thought.” “I’ll just fill out the rest of the section.” “I’d better write section titles so I remember where this fits with the larger idea.” “Well, I also have thoughts about this section. I don’t want to forget.” “Oh, now they’re all filled out. Better read it again to see if it makes sense.” Most of the day has gone by. I’m still sitting at the table for breakfast. This was not what I planned for today.

Re: HomeView pricing… The price is not what it costs. The price is what the market will bear. Basic economics. It doesn’t matter that the wall-mounted model costs less to make. The people who want that one are willing and able to pay more, so the price is higher. Simple as that. The requirement for pro installation acts as a price gate which already keeps out price-conscious buyers. That being the case, may as well charge more for the unit itself. In case we forgot, Apple is a business.

Every month, I sign in to my local water utility’s web site to pay my water bill. Every time, it pops up this toast in the corner. Congratulations, I guess? They seem very proud of their ability to execute routine IT maintenance tasks, and I guess they are just looking for someone to appreciate their efforts. #relatable

RE: https://mastodon.social/@dmd/117272298442040041 Still broken on macOS 27.2. No response to my Feedback so far. I've since added a workaround in Radiccio that simply removes the Liquid Glass effect (so the buttons can work again). The bug was new in 27.0, so the workaround isn't needed on 26.x. I'm stuck in a holding pattern now trying to figure out when or if to update the screen shots on my web site, because the app doesn't look like it's supposed...

I just imported Carbon.HIToolbox.Events in order to get constants that represent key codes (for use with NSEvent.keyDown, etc.). What year is this?? Those constants aren't defined in any more modern header, as far as I can tell. (Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong!) https://stackoverflow.com/a/59995062

Working on my Mac app makes me so happy. I wish I could find a way to earn a living doing it.

Just remembered The Incident (iOS, 2010) when Radiccio randomly surfaced its 13-minute official soundtrack by @cabel. The game is still available on the App Store! It still works! When you're waiting in a line somewhere, it's more fun than scrolling feeds! It even still has a web site! https://www.theincidentapp.com I really appreciate it when creators keep stuff like this available for such a long time. Made by @mattcomi and @neven. I miss when iOS games used to be like this....

Wow... Kingfisher is *so much* better than AsyncImage. Images load faster and they stay loaded. A 5 minute change results in a huge improvement to my app UX. I'm kicking myself for not doing this ages ago. Plus, unlike AsyncImage, you can actually configure it if you need to. Which you probably won't, because it has sensible defaults. I don't like to use a lot of external libraries, but this one has earned it.

Spent most of the day fighting with SwiftUI and getting nowhere. Hate it when this happens. The solution, as always, was to redo some parts in AppKit. I wish I had done this whole app in AppKit from the start. SwiftUI never gave me this much trouble on iOS, but it's so much worse on Mac. And context-switching between the two is a drag.

I often wonder how many people are using my app. App Store Connect gives me some analytics about “sessions”, but it doesn’t include people who have opted out of “share with developers” at the OS level. Also, for a Mac app like mine, I’m not even sure what they mean by a “session”. I just leave it running all day, every day - how many “sessions” is that? Anyway, I have intentionally chosen not to have any additional analytics, because I believe privacy is more important. So, this is how it is.

I'm very excited about this next big feature I'm working on. Trying to resist the temptation to say too much about it. I hope it will be useful to a lot of people. 6k lines of code so far, and probably only halfway done. Whew. (All human typed, no vibing.)

RE: https://mastodon.social/@daringfireball/116405120706339179 The name of Radiccio on the App Store is just "Radiccio". This was very important to me. I can't stand the SEO junk that clutters up app names, and it's just another minor tragedy that Apple has now resorted to this. (But probably not because of SEO; rather because app names "must" be unique and the old names were already taken… by them. Since it's THEIR STORE, I feel like...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@dmd/115657488444172514 As of today, all mentions of Liquid Glass have disappeared from developer.apple.com (the main home page). This may or may not mean anything... but I've been watching for it.
