That feeling when you just got through a whole pile of laundry and yet all the dirty laundry baskets are mysteriously full again. Only worsened by the bulkiness of cooler weather clothes.

You might read 2,000 - 4,000 books in your lifetime. Don't waste any of them on books you aren't enjoying or learning from.

Took one of my kids to the USPS to apply for their passport this morning. They won't wait until their mid-40s like I did to get theirs. Still two others to go. And getting my spouse in for theirs (they had one, but it is long, long expired).

I never hear those from the right complain about the socialist endeavor of filling pot holes.

Dvorak Symphony No. 9, mvmt 4 is such a good spooky season listen. I don't do much in the way of spooky season stuff, but this I can do. Might have to make a playlist of that, Danse Macabre, Night on Bald Mountain, and other goodies.

Laissez-faire style rugged individualism mixed with toxic protestant work ethic mixed with rabid racism mixed with unfettered capitalism is a helluva drug.

I'm sad to report that my beloved spoonful of peanut butter snacks appear to be a source of highly uncomfortable reflux issues.

Thought experiment: Suspend disbelief long enough to consider what it would have been like had social media been around when - the woman invented the wheel - a woman first climbed on a horse - a woman figured out tilling (Of course it was women who did all these things first. Have you seen men?)

Browsing the fantasy section at my local indie bookshop, I just wonder if fantasy authors know how to write. Why does everything have to be 500+ pages?

Yesterday, my son harvested 42 jalapeño peppers off a plant he grew from a seed. Then he proceeded to quick pickle them. He's excited to report that they turned out exactly as he hoped when he started the whole thing with a seed months ago. #gardening

I still find it odd when folks here talk about (or boast about) their follower count. If you're here in the Fediverse for influence and numbers, you're going to be severely disappointed. Be yourself. Your voice and content will find its audience. The size of that audience is entirely irrelevant. But your being here at all? That's something special.

I'm quite happy on Fosstodon. However, for a long time it was my backup account. I'm not looking to switch away from Fosstodon, but I do feel the urge to have an alt account I can use should the random need arise. What say you, Fediverse? What servers should I look at? I did entertain hosting my own GTS instance on my own domain, but the fact is I have no interest in being a Linux server admin. So that's out.

Welcome to moisturizer stock up season. No, you don't have enough yet.

I simply do not understand content creators who brag and boast about their hunger pangs. Y'all realize that is unhealthy, right? Like, most of humans from history would consider you mentally ill for having food in abundance and not eating when you're hungry. Now overconsumption and eating when you're not hungry is a different conversation. Having choice of what to eat and picking the unhealthier option is a conversation. (Not everyone can.) But just not eating when you...

Not sure if the space heater finally got my office space up to the desired temperature or if the sun just warmed up the room in the afternoon. I suspect the latter. But regardless, it's nice to have warm hands finally.

I know it's way too broad and there's so much of it is worthwhile, but some days it feels like technology (as popularly understood today) was a mistake.

Friendly reminder that UK and Europe end daylight savings this weekend (Oct 25), and the US/Canada end it the following weekend (Nov 1). So, you know, have fun scheduling meetings for the next few weeks!

I live in Pennsylvania, and a medical care office I had to visit this week had to post a sign on their entrance doors warning anyone who had been exposed to or was showing symptoms of measles not to enter the office, not even the waiting room. It is such interesting times in which we live. If only we had the means to make that completely unnecessary. Oh, wait.

Suggestion to take or leave: If you happen to live in a house whose address and driveway are on a well traveled four lane US highway and the mailbox is on the shoulder of said highway, perhaps don't go check your mail in naught but your trunk briefs.

On this, the 7th day of October, I switched our new heat pump to heat mode. And I rolled out, plugged in, and turned on my office space heater. I have no regrets. At least it's not the oil heat I'm leaning on here.

Sometimes you wind up better off not trying to figure out everything that needs to be done for a certain project and just doing the next known thing. But now I have a checklist that is 84 items long and I'm not feeling overwhelmed. You're feeling overwhelmed for me.
