  Feeling a bit depressed because I want to be excited about new hardware and stuff, but I simply cannot afford it. I see other indie devs lining up to buy stuff and meanwhile we're over here barely surviving. Tapestry doesn't make enough each month to afford *anything*. We've never recovered from the death of Twitterrific. I work harder and longer on Tapestry doing far more complex things than I've ever done before but it's just not paying off. So anyway. Ignore me being sad....

  I sped up the Tapestry timeline by over 350% by getting rid of SwiftUI. Increasingly of the opinion that SwiftUI was a huge mistake. There are parts of it that are good and have increased iteration time immensely, but the costs.... oh the costs...

  90s Trek was a weird blend of stage-like acting and regular tv acting. I don’t know how else to describe it. It’s often kind of stiff and sometimes exaggerated and doesn’t feel very natural at all, but it’s weird how well it works and feels almost timeless as a result of that. It sits firmly below realism which counterintuitively seems to actually aid the suspension of disbelief at times?

  Sent off a new Tapestry build internally. (Mostly for @gedeonm@mastodon.social and @chockenberry@mastodon.social at this point.) Huge project to try to make it faster, better, stronger. Or something like that. Maybe just more complicated and harder to maintain? We’ll see.

  Not sure if Linux or this ThinkPad, but wow sleep/waking the machine takes forever. Spoiled by Apple stuff, I guess. (And by this I mean, the Linux/PC world should get with the program here - same as with retina displays.)

  So yesterday I got my old refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad X13 and I was messing around with it. It was an "Amazon Renewed" thing, so I figured it'd be pretty much ready to go when I got it. The first thing I did, though, was boot up Windows just to make sure it worked and stuff. And wow.. Window Defender was *unhappy*. It started spewing errors about viruses. Good lord.

  You're ordering an iPhone Duo to run the latest iOS. I'm ordering an old ThinkPad to play around with Linux on the desktop. We are not the same. (Also the ThinkPad is literally 10x cheaper than the Duo.)

  One thing 90s Star Trek failed to anticipate was security cameras. So many plots would have been easily solved by a few cameras on the promenade or in the hallways pointing at turbo lift doors.
