Lynn Margulis proposed a theory of symbiogenesis--life evolves through organisms merging together to become inseparable--cooperation not just competition drives great leaps. In 1967, her theory was written off as not compelling. It is common knowledge today. https://www.yahoo.com/news/science/articles/her-groundbreaking-theory-origin-life-224144313.html

Men may admire intelligent women in principle, yet respond differently when confronted with their intelligence in person. As I told Josie Cox, it is another way women are considered 'never quite right' at work. https://www.fastcompany.com/91630773/theres-a-career-tax-on-being-smart-at-work-but-only-if-youre-a-woman

Marissa Mayer says passion overrides gender, as if just being “passionate” enough erases decades of women’s experiences in tech. 1/2 of women in tech leave the industry by 35, earn 84¢ to men's $, & women founders receive 1/2 the funding of male founders. https://www.404media.co/marissa-mayer-nyt-interview

2025 study: Of 102 California AI companies that had raised at least $50M, women held just 15% of board seats. 43% had no women directors at all. In this convo, the Salty Adjuster shared that in 10 years of insurance property claims, he’s worked with only 2 women providing ladder assists. That observation opened up a discussion about benevolent sexism. Listen here for much more on women in insurance. https://open.spotify.com/episode/5ou9Nm7gooiyYW2jNkJrlR

Most disheartening about this interview is Marissa Mayer's view that gender doesn't matter in tech and that eventually gender balance will come. She is worth $1.4B. She wants women at the table but doesn't see a role in doing anything proactive about it. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/25/style/marissa-mayer-ai-assistants-women.html?unlocked_article_code=1.LVE.wcpP.njK9ERiGPkLf&smid=url-share
